GRRRR i hate petco

kinda off topic on type but i went in there with my mom and gf to get some fish today and i went and looked at the reps...... i look at the columbian boa and hea all shriveled up like his skin was dragging behind him and had rolls about an inch hanging down hes about 3 feet long and only about the size of a quarter i ask the rep guy wtf was up and he said thats norm and that he was in a shed so his skin should look loose..... i told him off and got so mad my mom had to drag me out of the store

i mean everytime i go in ther somethings wrong either the temps the hum or theres like 5 snakes in a 20 gal it makes me feel so bad for them i wish i could have bought him it makes me sick

anyway i called the petco corp and reported the store and they said the would send a guy there without warning to inspect and if the prb want fixed they would take the snake to help it

im gonna go there everyday to check on him and to see if they do too

anyway sry for rambling i just wanted to tell someone about my crappy visit

P.S. thank god for local breeders so i can get healthy animals from them

That's too bad, it sounds like there are alot of problems with how the way things are handled at these stores. Not to say all of them are bad, we only have one in my city, and there are 2 guys there that really do know what they're talking about, However i've been to ones where it's a little 16 year old girl working in the Reptile area.

I hope something is done about this.

It's just the nature of the beast I think. Big corporate company with average workers. Go to Walmart and ask some advanced electronics questions to the guys there and see what they know.

i dont think petco cares much for "oh we should go find experienced people to work for us for minimum wage"

A)they dont care
B) it takes time
C) try finding enough of those people to supply all the stores of petco

its the sad truth.... my petco doesnt even have a hide for their bp's:( :mad:

i goto the localy owned pet store...

I'm actually pretty happy about the local petco. The store is clean, all of the cages seem clean. The BP tank is OK. One of the only pet stores i've ever see which seperates male/female mice.

I bought my BP from the local pet store which didn't have any hides and it's turned out to be a perfect snake. Snatched up every meal, perfect shed, no biting or snapping

Keep in mind they have almost a 1,000 stores spread out all across the country, every store is going to be different.

Each store has a manager/managers which in turn are watched over by district managers. What they do can be very different from one another and not even what Petco would like them to be doing.

Plus they aren't going to be hiring herpetologist to watch over the reptiles in each store, or marine biologists to watch over the fish, or ornithologist for the birds.

I'd really have to say 90% of all pet stores, corporate or private, have little to no knowledge of the proper care for many of the livestock they carry. They know enough to keep the animals alive (sometimes), not how to give them the most ideal care.

I had an experience like that but with a "reptile store". There was one BP per tank but it was maybe 6x12 tops and the snakes were all around 16-18" with no hides and a small water dish and 3 out of 5 had massive retained sheds. They had seven corns in one tank and the guy tells my dad, when he asked about the GTP, that anything with tree in it's name will take your hand of no questions asked. I'll never go there again. :mad: :mad: :mad:

i know exactly what your talking about a while back i went to my local petco and i looked at tall the bp's and they were freaking infested with mite soo bad i havve never seen anything like it it was disgusting its like they have the mite off and other mite medicine like 5 feet away and i tol d the people there and they acted like they were gonna do something but the next time i went for mice i noticed they were all gone and i asked and they told me they all died. man i got soo pissed :mad: i refuse to go there anymore but i have noticed the same setups in every petco except for one i went to recently they had a very nice setup temps and hum were perfect and the most they had in a tank were 2 snakes but i feel soo bad for these snakes its like dude people breed them for pets they spend there whole life in a tank and they need us to care for them and in my opinion its not that hard at all especially when you have all the stuff you need 5 feet away well look at me im rambling also lol but i hear you man petco is a really jacked up place for ANYTHING thats not fluffy and cute really really sad i wanna hit to lotto so i can buy and care for them all. poor little creatures they deserve soo much better. soo much. :(

isnt there an organization to call about these type of people i guess animal control or whatever but what will that solve petco/pet shop will get a fine and continue on as usual.

man my uncs a lawyer and i ask him and they can do what they want he said that if there animals die its just there loss thers nothing that can b done except bi*** and complain and hope something gets done
