GTP enclosure?

I'm looking into (eventually) getting a GTP and am not really sure where to get tank with a perch. I'm looking for something more displayable than just a tub and I would prefer it to be affordable, and not some big custom tank with misters and whatnot. I've seen the plans on FineGTPs.com and that's a LOT of trouble for a tank.

Another more economical and just as functional option is BARRS (www.herpcages.com). I have my Chondro housed in one of the 24x12x12 enclosures, and including shipping and a pair of perch supports, only cost me roughly $70.

I have a few quick questions: in the boaphile arboreal cages, you can add "back heat." Would this replace belly heat? Do chondros spend any time on the ground? If so, do they need hides and belly heat? How would back heat be beneficial?

alot of chondro keepers use radiant heat panels. these heat well and help to maintain humidity levels. gtp's are almost always on the perch, an overhead heat source to one side of the cage will work well. use a couple different perches at different height to help with thermoregulation.

My Boaphile arboreal came with the heat panel built into the side. My GTP has three perches and can move left/right and up/down to adjust her heat. It seems to work pretty well.

Yeah, I've pretty much decided on a boaphile arboreal cage. Where do you get the extra perches? Can Boaphiel send you some?

EDIT: Also, would I need a thermostat for the cage?

thermostats are always good and get a good hygrometer too keep humidity levels proper. GTPs arent as forgiving as other snakes when it comes to husbandry mistakes.

Julez answered the thermostat question. Thermostats are always a good idea...

As far as the perches, they sent me an extra one at no charge. It's really just a PVC pipe with a notch cut in it to prevent it from spinning on the mounts. I asked that they send me the mounts uninstalled, but they usually install them for you.

They're pretty easy....I mounted mine with PVC cement.

Would I need two perches if I had a radiant heater like this one?

I figure the snake would just scoot to whichever side of the perch to thermoregulate.
