Huff it? Ok, thats a bad idea! :)
We throw it out onto the roof next door and pour some water on it. Makes for some entertainment.

Re: Dry Ice**
or, if you are into to seeing something cool..
put about 1/2 cup of dry ice into a 20 ounce bottle and then mix in a cup of water......
Screw the lid on and back away quickly.......
Kaboom....

Re: Dry Ice**
When my friends and I decided we would go camping next to a lake when we were younger--ALL BY OURSELVES (we were probably 13 or 14), my parents snuck in with a box of dry ice and dumped it in the lake right next to our site--then made noises...
Suddenly, there's scary noises and a weird mist and the water next to our site was bubbling! Then, they jumped out and scared us
Definitely made for a neat-looking rest of the evening.

This makes a big kaboom. Not for indoors or near nosy or parinoid neighbors.

Re: Dry Ice**
And for interesting chemistry fun...put it in a bucket of water. You will get C02 fog that rolls over the edge and along the ground, and the water will appear to boil. :D
Just note!!! Don't breathe the vapors or let any pets breathe them.
-
Re: Dry Ice**
yeah, we tend to just dump it in the sink and run water over it to make spooky fog.
the vapors are just CO2....it's ok to breathe some but don't put yourself in a situation where that's all you're breathing :)

Re: Dry Ice**
definitely don't touch it
and don't put it in your mouth! there's a trick you can do to put it in your mouth (similar to walking on coals....the moisture saves you from serious burns)
BUT it's dangerous...a kid from my school did the trick and swallowed it by mistake....he lived but eats through a tube now.

Its the solid state of CO2 so yea its -109.8 F

Re: Dry Ice**
With a good chunk of Dry ice, you could probably fill up a small office with enough C02 to Knock out a human so on his desk wouldn't be a good idea unless you want him to pass out. I usually just throw is out and let it disipate or throw it in a bucket and and make shapes as the "smoke" rises out by hitting the bucket or moving it around.

Re: Dry Ice**
My mom worked in Pediatrics for a time and some of the vaccines are packed with dry ice to keep them cold. She would bring some home sometimes and dump it in a bathtub full of warm water. It would produce so much fog, it crept down the stairs. :carrot:

lol Who said you can't do it if you don't like your boss? lol Just kidding of course. You can always used it to euthanize rodents.

Its even more fun to put a 5lb peice in a 5 gal bucket and fill with water then put it in the back seat of someones car with the windows up :D:D:D:D
fills the car with smoke.

lol As long as they aren't in it. If the pressure got high enough(doubt it would) there is the possibility of some sort of combustion because of too much pressure. Dry ice can be fun to play with as long as you use common sense and a 5 lb block will last you a long while
-
Re: Dry Ice**
It won't combust inside a car. There's tonso f ways for the slight pressure to dissapate. As long as no one gets "gassed" it's safe.
Be aware, in several states making a 'dry ice bomb' using the bottle idea is illegil to the point that you can be ARRESTED for it. So one angry neighbor can ruin your weekend that way.
I liked to step on it and crush it. Or make the fog with water... it's entertaining.

Re: Dry Ice**
Put quarters in it!! They shiver. I agree with the warm water trick, and the car trick..lol!! See where you ahve holes in your car.
