Family Emergency
Well, Amy(my wife) is in Tulsa, OK. Her dad and step mother were in a serious car accident, her step mother was killed and her dad is in critical condition in the ICU part of the hospital. So she had to suddenly leave and head down there monday evening. Unfortunately with the rodents, snakes and dog I wasn't able to go with her. But I probably won't be around much until this gets sorted out, between caring for all the animals by myself and coordinating phone calls etc my time is spread pretty thin. I will keep you all informed. Please keep them in your prayers.
Here is article from local paper.
Mason City woman killed in Oklahoma accident;
husband, Plymouth woman critically injured
By BOB LINK, Of The Globe Gazette
MASON CITY — A 62-year-old Mason City woman died and two North Iowans were injured in a five-vehicle accident Monday near Tulsa according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Jill Larson sustained massive internal and head injuries in the accident, which happened at 11:36 a.m.
Larson’s husband, Jim Larson, 64, and Sara Erickson, of Plymouth, were also injured in the accident. Both were listed in critical condition at St. John Medical Center, according to the Oklahoma Patrol.
Sara Erickson is the Larsons’ grandson's wife. According to friends of the family, the Larsons’ grandson, James Erickson, had just completed military boot camp at Ft. Benning, Ga., and they had been there for his graduation.
The Department of Transportation closed the westbound lanes of the interstate for more than three hours and 45 minutes, the patrol said.
Jill Larson and Erickson were passengers in a pickup truck driven by James Larson. They were headed west on the highway when a car driven by Amanda Holland left the roadway and over-corrected, hitting Larson's vehicle, troopers said.
The Larsons’ vehicle lost control, went through the median and into the westbound lanes, where it was struck by a large delivery truck. Both vehicles hit a van and another vehicle was struck by debris, the patrol reported.
Jill Larson was pinned in the wreckage for about two hours before being freed by Tulsa firefighters, troopers said.
According to Larsons’ neighbors in Mason City, the couple had been gone for approximately one week. They were due to be back home some time today.

Re: Family Emergency
Thanks everyone. I will try to keep everyone updated as I hear any myslef. Right now he is sedated (sp?) because he has brain swelling from a head injury, they had to drain some blood out of his lungs and now he is also on dialysis (sp?) for his kidney (only has one). So he is still listed in critical condition.

Re: Family Emergency
Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the kind words and offers that have come in. Right now there is no change in his condition, at this point I think no change is probably not a bad thing ( at least he's not getting worse). His body needs a chance to heal before he has to come to terms with losing his wife. There is definitely a long road ahead.

Re: Family Emergency
Hope everything works out as best as it can Bill. Sorry to hear about the trouble.

Re: Family Emergency
Well his head swelling has gone down and they have removed the drain. The Dr. decided the small fractures in his neck would heal by themselves with a neck brace and wouldn't need surgery. They removed him from sedation, but he has not waken up yet. Amy's week long turn down there is up today, I have to meet them in Kansas City to pick her up. I am glad she is coming home. Her sister will be down there for the next week then her brother will do the following week. They are hoping he will wake up soon and be able to transport him home to an area hospital. Thanks for everyones support, it is greatly appreciated.

Re: Family Emergency
UPDATE:
Well her Dad is slowly waking up, he will look in our direction when you say his name. He still has a blank "sleepy" look on his face, but is improving. His head swelling is gone and is doing much better. They are hoping they can get him transported back to Iowa in a week or so. Sara ia also doing better, she is awake and knows what happened. We have had the visitation and funeral for Amy's step mom this week and everything went smoothly. We are hoping once we can get Jim moved back to Iowa that everything will somewhat settle down. Thanks for all of your support, it's greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!
You ROCK!!!

Re: Family Emergency
Glad to hear! Hopefully her dad will continue to improve and eventually get back to normal. :) Also glad to hear that the visitation went smoothly. :salute:

Re: Family Emergency
That's great to hear Bill. I saw your post in my thread this morning, and was going to ask if you hadn't updated us. Still praying for you guys and hopefully it will settle down a bit so you can get back to the excitement of breeding season.
p.s. Did that Albino female hook you up this year too? I may need something out of that clutch.

Re: Family Emergency
Wow....It's good to hear that he is getting better. As crazy as it is, I have been thinking about and praying for your family before I read this. I was headed home that day and actually was stuck in the traffic from that wreck. It really got to me and just about every time I go out and have to drive now, I wonder how the people in that are doing and pray that everything turned out ok. I'm really glad to hear that he is getting better and I'll keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers until he is at home and feeling better!

Re: Family Emergency
He finally got transferred back to Iowa this week. The doctors are concerned about a fever he currently has, they think he might have a blood infection. I'm not sure if that is what it is called, but thats what Amy told me. So he isn't out of the woods yet.
Thanks for all your support!!!

When it rains it pours. We just found out our 5 year old nephew got rushed to the emergency room with severe convulsions (sp?) and is in pediatric ICU at the same hospital as his grandfather. :(

Re: Family Emergency
Oh no Bill! It's always especially heart breaking when these things happen to very young children. Our prayers are with you, the little guy and his parents. Please let us know how things are and if there's anything any of us can do to help out or just be there for you and Amy as you face another family medical crisis.

Re: Family Emergency
It has been a terrible month, this one with Braydon has hit me hard. He is my little buddy, he spends 2-3 weeks here in the summer. Everyone used to call him "Baby B", but this past year he told everyone he was a big boy and we couldn't call him that anymore. So his new name he picked out was "Big B". lol We haven't gotten any updates on why it happened, hopefully they will know something soon. Here is a pic of him from a couple summers ago when he was staying with us. It is a picture of him and his brother Logan, Braydon is on the right.

Re: Family Emergency
Praying it's something like febrile seizures though they don't commonly start up after age 3 but it happens. I have a nephew of my own that had those and though terrifying they do tend to outgrow them without developing further problems. I hope it's something like that Bill but I'm glad they've got him where he should be so the doctors can figure out what's going on. His poor parents must be beside themselves, I know Mike and I surely would be. Our Beth whose 13 now had seizure activity when she was younger. It is awful to see and they put her through all the tests for epilepsy. In the end we found it was related to black mould that we found growing in our walls (we immediately moved, and she never had another convulsion).

Re: Family Emergency
My little buddy is doing well today. :) They aren't sure as the cause yet, but he is doing great. Amy's Dad is suddenly doing much better also, he is responding to commands and his fever is going down. So today is turning out to be a much better than expected. :D
