Feeding Question
Zim is on f/t fuzzies. He has never refused a meal since I got him on December 5th, 2007. He gets one fuzzy every 7-10 days. His last fuzzy was on March 10th, 2007. I just fed him about 10 min ago a fuzzy and Zim is being very odd tonight.
I weighed him before feeding him. He is now 55 grams. When I took him out, he was very active and was in no mood to be held. After putting him back in his tank, he got his fuzzy and he took a few minutes to eat it, but got it down fine.
Temps in the tank are currently 75 on cool and 84 on warm. He is roaming around the tank after his meal. I know this can be a sign of stress, so now I'm kind of worried. He's gone in 2 out of 3 of his hides, then leaves them and continues to roam the cage. Could it be that he's still hungry, or is this something else?

Re: Feeding Question
I am by no mean an expert, but I would bump my temps up, 92 on hot and 82 on cool.
I would guess that maybe he was looking for a warmer spot to sit. I hope that helps out some.

No no no....that's for Ball Pythons. Zim is a corn snake. They don't like it hot. In fact, too much heat can cause regurging.

Re: Feeding Question
Whoops, sorry, didnt pay attention to where it was at..
Sorry again, disregard what I posted, I don't know anything about corns.
Again sorry.

Re: Feeding Question
Well he's snuggled into the hide on the cool side now. Temps are up more than normal. For some reason, the temp is up to 88 on the warm side. I'm alternating cutting it off and on for periods of time to keep the temp below 90. I think I need a lower wattage bulb.

Get a dimmer switch from the hardware store. They make them for table-lamps that you just plug into like an extension cord with a little sliding switch. Inexpensive, and an easy way to keep from overheating with a bulb.

Re: Feeding Question
Well he's back out again. I know corn snakes are active, but he's never been this active, this early in the night.

Re: Feeding Question
I didn't know corns had a tendency to be active! Sister's is always hiding!

Re: Feeding Question
Well, they are active during the night (sometimes). Zim normally comes out once every night to every other night, depending on his mood. He'll cruise the cage, climb to the top, then slither back down and into his hide. After feeding him though, he was really active. He didn't want to go into his hides.
I asked the guy at Noahs and he said, he could just be hungry still, so next week I'm going to try feeding him a fuzzy and a pinky.

Re: Feeding Question
He is probably hungry! I am feeding mine several pinkies, no hoppers as of yet, and when she is still hungry, she will be out and about, then go back in here hides.

Re: Feeding Question
Mine is about 55g and near 2ft long. He's been on fuzzies since I got him, one a week.
So should I switch to feeding a few pinkies instead of one fuzzy? If so, how many pinkies per feeding?

Re: Feeding Question
No don;t go to pinks on a snake that size. If he';s eating fuzzies keep with the fuzzies. If it's FT or prekilled, try cutting them on the back several times. I usually snip 3 or 4 V shapes through the skin on the back before feeding. Might help get a quicker feeding response, and the cutting definitely helps them digest faster and grow faster.

Your snake could still be hungry but you don't have to fill him up all the way.... what you can do is feed two fuzzies a week (the smallest ones you have) and this should fill him up. If he is still roaming his cage he'll be fine. snakes can go a long time without food so just keep feeding him his normal food size maybe move up to two fuzzies a week and he'll be fine either way.
