For those that like Mangroves
Don at Mfezi.com just got some in. He had this shot up on Kingsnake.com and I thought I would share it here,
http://www.jackspirko.com/images/snakes/mangrove.JPG
I will personaly probally never own another one after my psyco experience with my last one. They sure are stunning though. :) May be one day I will see about getting another one.
They certainly have to be one of the most awesome display snakes in the world.

If you did not receive permission from him to use the pic, I suggest just linking it.

Oh God board cops!:rolleye2:
Don and I have a GREAT relationship and I have premission to use his photos (with credit) all I want. Relax my well intentioned friend. There are not many dealors that object to free plubicity the last time I checked anyway.

Not to sound like a board cop, but I figured you may as well edit it because a mod probably will sooner or later.

Re: For those that like Mangroves
Jack...that is HOT!! And boy does that snake look pissed at the world! I love it!! So beautiful!!!
((And the picture is fine...it's hosted on Jack's own webspace, so he's not leaching bandwidth from anyone else...and he credited the picture to the person who owns it. All fine by me.))

Re: For those that like Mangroves
I have been waiting for 2 YEARS for Gary Orner to breed his mangs and get me a baby. Don't think it's ever gonna happen.:(
Are these treated and feeding?

Re: For those that like Mangroves
Awesome pic! I love mangroves...too bad they couldn't have a more gentile temperament, or I'd own tons.

Re: For those that like Mangroves
Thanks folks, Don gets some awesome animals in.
 For those that wanted one unfortuntely he has sold all the Mangs already. He does have some nice house and sand snakes along with a few species of cat snakes just in.
One day I am going to have a Mang again, they are just so damn agressive at least mine was. I will bet you can find one or two that are at least managable. The problem with mine was he was not even good for display he struck the glass at any movement.

Re: For those that like Mangroves
Aren't they rear fanged venomous as well? They're gorgeous that's for sure..

Re: For those that like Mangroves
I am working on geting one. I have noticed they dont stay for sale very long as the sell so fast. Sombody had a baby at the Tucson Reptile show last year and it was awesome. Someday when I get the room I will get a few. What kind of cat snakes does he have?
-
Re: For those that like Mangroves
I got a great shot of the baby at the Tuscon show, what a cutie! Super tame too, but I just can't bring myself to be tempted by rear fanged. But I adore their mischevious faces and big round eyes. So cute!

Re: For those that like Mangroves
On the Cat Snakes he has some white spots, some dog tooth and a few others. Just got to Mfezi.com click on available then snakes to see what he has. His shipments clear out pretty fast.
Medusa on rear fanged just so you know there is not much to fear. Like I have a False Water Cobra and a Diadem and a Madagascar Cat Eyed Snake. They are all calm and gentle and no trouble to handle. A bite from any would be not much more then swelling and pain. Like a cat bite might be a lot worse.
With mangs the issue is they are mean at least most of them. They can give a good bite and an envenomation will be painful however there is an easy remedy.
Gloves and long sleaves if you do any handling with them. See the rear fangs are really more like groved teeth not true fangs the venom just runs down the teeth into the wound. So common garden gloves and shirt sleves won't prevent you from getting a bite BUT it will absorb the very small amount of venom so you don't end up with it in your skin.

Re: For those that like Mangroves
Oh and it is not a Mangrove but it is beautiful and black and yellow. Can anyone guess what it is?:)
It is a beautiful 7 foot Tiger Rat snake currently listed under New World Rat Snakes on Kingsnake.com. The poster says he does not bite either (real plus with tigers).
You just should know that he could reach 10 feet or even may be 11 in time. One day I will buy one but I have new buys on hold for the summer while I ramp up custom caging etc.
If I was in the market I would grab that guy.

Re: For those that like Mangroves
Oooh.. I love tiger rat snakes. They're so cool.

Re: For those that like Mangroves
The main reason I'm wary of back fanged is I dunno what I'm allergic to. I've never been stung by a bee, so I'm wary of them the same way. I don't want to find out the hard way. :P
Here's the shot of the baby mangrove who slayed me with it's big cute eyes at the Tuscon show. Baby snakes are so freaking adorable.

Re: For those that like Mangroves
Of course I am not trying to talk you into anything (go ahead you know you wanna, :devilish: ) just like I said though remember that simple garden gloves and sleves are all you would ever need to totaly prevent envenomation.
That little one is cute, this is what I wonder if you find a baby like that one and he is not a jerk and if you handle him will he stay that way.
For many snakes this is the way it works but not all.
Like many Rainbow Boas get cranky as adults after being gentle when small.
Retics are often pretty chill as juvies then go psyco as adults, not always but often. Same with Rock pythons.
Has anyone actually ever seen and adult mang that did not bite?

Yea you are right, besides we know you need at least a pair of cape house snakes and perhaps some Taiwans before you even consider a mangrove, :devilish:
he he he he!

Re: For those that like Mangroves
Just FYI, Don has some more in for a brief time I am sure and I hear a few are almost reasonable in temper. Like I said ALMOST reasonable,

I would've said the same thing (just link to it), but I see you have it saved on your own website, so you're not sucking up someone else's bandwidth. It's nice to be nice to other peoples' bandwidth. ;)

I always am! Though with Don it would hardly be an issue a few K's to display his snake on a board full of people who love and buy snakes. Knowing him now for well over a year I can tell you he would not object.
Still I always host any shots I display. I have about a billizillion Gigs of BW and tons of space as well. Heck I own three full servers!
