What the heck is a Blackback?????

Hey all,

I was wondering, What the heck is a blackback ball python. I have seen a multitude of people saying they have a "blackback" but I cant find a real discription of them. Any help?????? Thanks all,

Thats RDR's description of black backs, theres also one on Markus Jayne's site

Where the snake has little to no pattern crossing over the top part of his back. Like a strip of black going down in a stripe from head to tail.

Thanks, What I was confused about was the "black" in blackback. I have one of these and it is all black but then I saw one with brown blushing in the back but bieng advertised as "blackback. I think I get it and thanks for the help.

When I imported this ball python as a baby in 1998, he had a solid black stripe running down his back ... almost 10 years later it's turned to a nice faded chocolate color ... Black back, brown back, whatever you want to call it, doesn't matter to me ... I call him Smokin Hot! ;) :D

Most definitely ... that is an old picture ... over the years I've learned a lot about how to produce ball pythons with maximum efficiency and I don't allow girls to get that heavy bodied anymore ... it kills me, cause I do love the thick girls. ;) :love: :D

Rapture that blackback thingy Het Albino male is smokin' hot. I really like the side pattern on that thing.

Nope, you're not alone. :) I actually like orange/.browner pastels too.. best of all to me are the super pastels with that coloration, and lots of bluching.. my cup of tea!

I am pretty sure that there's a difference between blackbacked-appearing snakes, and genetically proven ones though.. I would view any unproven one as a nice normal until proven otherwise. :) Unless they're all genetic?

I love that girl too, she's hot!

No, not all 'blackbacks' are genetic. Just like not all banded/reduced are genetic. I don't expect my big girl or my pastel to be genetic but I'm REALLY hoping for something from my youngin. I have more, I need to get updated pictures. I was going to get a bigger memory card when the tax check came in BUT due to some issues our tax check is delayed...
