just got it all set up. and going. pics
just got it all done last night. i now have 30 female breeder rats.
with in the next weeks i will be building racks to stack them three high. then i would like to get about 30 more females. i keep a 1.5 in the tubs and have great luck with that. i just had tow litters born last night.
i feed 100% steril lab block just like the rats in labs eat. it is guarenteed to be 100% fresh. as we all know the better the feeders the better the snakes health.

Very nice Matt!! Just be careful that they don't chew through the tubs
Re: just got it all set up. and going. pics
They will chew through those tubs and with no lid they will be able to jump out...

I am sure he has lids for them. As far as chewing through tubs, maybe, maybe not. As long as the insides are smooth and there isnt anywhere to get a hold they will be fine in there. I've used similar tubs with success.

yes i have lids. with holes in them filled with rat wire. i just took them off for the shoot. i have not noticed any chewing as of yet. i will watch out for that.
in the next month or two i will be building a 15x15 shed in my back yard with heat and a/c , vent fans and windows just for rats. i will post pics as soon as i get it up.

Grrrr I need to read before I post
Re: just got it all set up. and going. pics
i used similar tubs and at first they were fine, but then the rats discovered that they could chew the edges where i cut out a rectangle and covered it with wire mesh. they would chew it right around the wire until there was a hole big enough for them to get out. the tubs that you are using look like they may be taller though so it may not be a problem.
what kind of bedding are you using? it is a mixture of different things? some of it looks really fine and kinda dusty.
Re: just got it all set up. and going. pics
it is kind of an aspen mix. but i plan on going with straight aspen in the next week or so.
Re: just got it all set up. and going. pics
Are you taking the preggo females out?...Or are you having them deliver in the 1.5 tubs?
Re: just got it all set up. and going. pics
i have 3 tubs set up that i put females in right before they are about to birth. i have had them have them in the 1.5 with few problems. but every know and then you will check on a new born litter in a 1.5 and all the babies are gone. not cool. so that is why now i have birthing tubs.
