    First EGGS ever...
    Can't believe it!!!

My 4.5' girl gave me 6 perfect eggs this morning with absolutely NO pre-shed.

I was waiting every day for her to shed to prepare the incubator. Now I'm all surprised and have to leave the eggs with my baby for a whole day cuz the incubator has to warm up.

Pictures to follow, as I already ran late for work this morning preparing the incubator... LOL

    The second clutch is HERE!

8 wonderful eggs (normals AGAIN) - and an incubator FINALLY running at the proper temps.

It happened that my Gerbils also gave birth to 11 great little babies who will be just the right size to breed themselves when the eggs hatch!!!

    I wanna congratulate myself,
    great job - Robin

    Soooo,

the time has come that my eggs should hatch, right?

They were laid 03/19 and I am getting all excited ´I can see the babies in my 3 (!!!) remaining eggs - but so far no sign of hatching.

My dilemma is - I will have to go on a 7day trip to Europe in 10days, what if they didn't hatch til then?

    Any suggestions?

You are well past when the eggs should hatch. My thinking is if the eggs take another 10 days there is a real problem. Today is day 67 which is already way on the late side.

    C-Section?

Meaning, giving them a little help by CAREFULLY cutting the egg shell?

I'm terrified - it's my first clutch EVER

    Re: First EGGS ever...
I would definitely cut that clutch of eggs and make sure everything is ok in the eggs. I would bet that if you cut them, those snakes will be out in no time. Also, with both clutches being over 65 days, I would definitely cut them today, and they should both be out before your trip.

I haven't had my first clutch yet, that'll be next year, but from all I've read, I agree that cutting them seems to be the best idea.

    DONE!

Cut a little cross in each egg - inside looks good, the snakes didn't move though.

    Do I have to worry?

    Robb,
It is ok to gently poke each snake with something dull. If they are alive and well, you will see them flinch a little buit. Let us know how things go.

    Okay,

    another peek I took:

there is something like a white ball with the baby in the one egg, does this mean it still is nourishing itself from the yolk?
    After this looong time?

I prolly won't be able to sleep tonight...

No movements yet - should I tear them out?

    Getting concerned...

One egg has a lot of dark-ish fluid in it, the other two are "dry"...

    Another check today,

the yolk bag is kinda big (still) - can it be that it takes them forver to hatch?

Absolutely no sign of movement but also not of being foul.

    So,
    anybody ideas?

    Temp in incubator: 88,9°F (+/- 0,2°)

    Hi,

Is the yolk getting smaller? If so how quickly?

Are there any signs that movement has occured when you weren't looking? say like take pics of each hatchling and check for changes of pattern/position the next day?

Possibly even sprinkle on a little line of peices of vermic across the window (not sure of this one as it is introducing foreign matter into the egg and could cause problems).

I don't have the experience to help you on this though - posibly you could try emailing one of the larger breeders to ask if they have any opinions?

    I hope their ok.:(

I have NO clue what is going on here...

No movements of the snakes, also no sign of them starting to foul - but they are WAYYYY over their time limit.

    I'll just wait I guess...

    DEAD!

All three are dead and smelling rotten - no idea what killed them, they looked healthy til the last day.

    I'm destroyed - guess I'll give up,
17eggs - only three were fertile and they died in the last two weeks before pippin - what went wrong?

If you give up now you will never know the joy of watching that first little head pip out of the shell and duck back in when you try to get a peek ;) .

Crap! I'm sorry to hear about your bad luck. Please don't give up though. Let's figure out what went wrong (if anything under your control) and move on. There is too much joy when it goes right to give up.

Oh hell; that sucks, man. I am really sorry about that. I had a clutch go bad last year (my first year of attempting breeding them) and I was hit hard by it. Then this year, my hovabator spiked and killed my first clutch. I got a better incubator going, but nothing can ease that pain of losing them. But it doesn't seem like you did anything wrong.. I guess that these things happen. I am really sorry for your loss and I hope that you will try again.
