    Its A Boy!!
    .....AND HES MITES FREE! w00t!

Got him looked out and hes a very healthy male about 6 months old. Completely mites free. He just likes to sit in his water bowl each night.
    :partyon:  :partyon:

Edit: Its 2:40am and I just realized I put this in the Husbandry section and not the general BP section, can I get this moved please. Thanks.

    I moved it for ya.

I'd still be concerned about the soaking. If he continues doing it, you may want to seriously consider a smaller water bowl. Constant soaking can lead to other health issues such as scale rot.

    How 'bout this little experiment:

Get a small dish that he can't fit in at all, and keep that filled with fresh water. Then take his current waterbowl...dry it out...and put it back in there. If he continues to lay in that bowl..then maybe he just likes the feel of it...and it won't hurt him to lay in a dry bowl. ;)

just have a hard time believing that BP's will do things that are hazardeous to their own health. Would think they would know what is and isnt good for them, i mean, not like they arent in the wild where they cant be allowed to do those things, so they would have to know on their own whats good and bad...

Ill try that water dish idea, if he keeps going in there when there is no water im gonna laugh my ass off at him, then hes gonna get all pissed cause I took out his swimming pool... :8:

Well, think of it this way: Should a BP be aware that there are dangerous bacteria, viruses and fungi that may thrive in warm, wet environments? No. All they know is that bowl is comfy to them for whatever reason.

And you can't really compare a tiny, enclosed, controlled space to what they may encounter out in the wild. In such small, enclosed spaces (even if you're picturing a giant 75gal tank...it's still tiny compared to the wild)...harmful agents can build up very quickly in huge, concentrated numbers that they would not likely encounter in the wild.

And that's not to say that snakes don't sometimes suffer scale rot and other illnesses in the wild. Instinct may tell them a particular spot is a good temperature, and it feels snug and secure...but it won't tell them that dangerous levels of bacteria are building up beneath them and getting under their scales.

Lemme know how things go with that dry bowl! I'm really curious to see if he continues to use it or not.

well yes - however I hope to avoid looking like elvis did at the end and really don't want to die on the toilet. :)

And humans know when something is a bad idea - the poor snake just has instinct.

As a precaution however try showing it pics of later stage elvis every time it sits in it's water bowl. :P
