DFW Rats?
Well, after spending time at Becky's this weekend, my family fell in love with rats. Who knew they were such brilliant little characters??
Becky has advised me not to purchase from a pet store. One girl in Ft. Worth (a long way from me) has some good ones, but she sleeps days, so it might be really hard to get instant gratification that way. Becky will also have some in a couple of months, but I *really* would like to get one now as well!
So does anyone in my area know of someone with good, quality rats? I want one strictly as a pet. It might also help with my mouse breeding project, if we have a rodent we like to play with we will quit pestering the mice and let them get on with the breeding! haha

Re: DFW Rats?
Look for fort worth rat breeders on yahoo. There are plenty rat breeder organizations that deal with mostly pet rats and they are usually strict with their husbandry

Re: DFW Rats?
I just gave ~169 rats to mpenn. I bet you could trick him out of one :P

Mike is a sweetie, I bet he would share with me! He knows I adore him. He's a little far away too, though. :(

Only if you were to make it worth my while honey! ;)

Re: DFW Rats?
Keep in mind that you should plan to get a pair of males or a pair of females - it's not extra work to keep two, and they are social critters who need the companionship of another rat, another one to nurture and sleep with!
I understand you also fell in love with a snakers named Sullivan (aka Sully) while at Becky's too! :P

Haha, what, the pleasure of my company isn't worth a 2 hour drive to give me a rodent? :8:

Ok, I'll get a pair, then :D
Oh yes, Sully was gorgeous! Oh, she has so many great snakes, I could have stayed forever just playing with them!

You should hook her up with one of those rats I brought over Sat, easy to keep and hardly needs any food :8:

Re: DFW Rats?
I want blues! I actually picked up some new rats for breeders at the show in Tampa. They are too young for breeding right now, but they'll get there.
Here's a link to a pic of some in the q-pen.

The one male has a blaze face(dunno if that's the rat-term) and I asked the breeder. He has several like that, no health issues whatsoever, and he's from a mom and dad just like that too. I rem something about a blaze face being bad, but he had a lot there and said he'd never heard of that, and had no health issues whatsoever, in fact.. the females threw an average litter of 10-12.
At any rate, I though he was darling, and I got some females that are mostly white with bits of blue on them, and some agouti/blue. All dumbo eared, or carriers of dumbo ears. I don't particularly care about dumbo ears myself, but they were cuties!

Whoopsie!
I was so bad today. I had to go get mice for feeding night, and my pet store had these cute babies in:

Males, one is a dumbo! Becky taught me how to check for aggression and friendliness, and I did spend a lot of time doing those things. My son and I fell in love with these little guys, though, so they did come home with us!
I'll be getting one more male from a friend in a month or so, so they should be a great little pet colony for us!
