UTH barely sticks to the bottom of my tub....
I recently switched from a glass tank to a plastic tub and on the bottom of my tub there are like these squares so when I try to stick the UTH on the bottom of it, it doesn't stick very well at all.....can I put tape on it?

I don't know what to do

I assume you are putting it on the outside, right? I would use foil tape. You can get a roll at Home Depot for about $6.

why do you need to stick it? i just changed to a tub aswell and i just sit the tub on top of the uht. seems to be working out fine.

because the tub is slightly raised so it wouldnt be touching the UTH....

thats probably because your tub isnt raised at all and it doesnt have squares on the bottom making it really hard to stick

A lil duct tape on the edges will have that sucker in place for a good while. :)

my tubs have a raised edge around the entire tub and thats about the only part that actually touches the flexwatt. It works perfectly fine for me.

I have my flexwatt taped to the tub--and because of how the tub's shaped (raised edges on the bottom), only the edges are really in -direct- contact. There's a slight gap between the Flexwatt and most of the bottom of the tub, but it's working out just fine for me. I'm using aluminum tape to do it--and that hasn't melted--as it's metal :)

yeah i duct taped it but for some reason i have to have my thermostat set to like 100 or higher just to get the correct temps on the hot side and i only had to set my t-stat to like 88 when i used the glass tank.....

If its controlled by a rheostat or thermostat, the only way it COULD melt the tub would be a malfunction on the stat

How thick of a substrate are you using and what are you using? I can't imagine you have to have to set the t-stat at 100 to get a 90* surface temp with a tub

Unless your room is SUPER cold...is the room temperature really cold? That could definitely effect how hard your thermostat has to work to get the temps up.

Before I put my rack to use I had it setup in my garage and I turned the heater off and the temps dropped down to 50* and never once did my thermostat have a problem keeping it at 94*

Foil tape works great, and is rated for temperatures much hotter than a BP's UTH.. I use it!
