Aaaah! Flood!
So...Auryn decided to leave me poop + urate + pee today. On the bottom of his tub, of course :) He decided that doing it on -top- of the KRAFT paper was too much effort.
And...oh my GOD did it stink. I almost threw up. Before, he'd pooped twice and I've had a urate/pee once--but they were seperate events, and on the paper--and didn't smell too bad. This one, though... *shudder*
Anyway--so I put him in a holding tub (with some tepid water) for a few minutes (I emptied the water, dried him and the tub off, and left him in the tub over the flexwatt while I did the rest of the cleaning). I emptied the poo and paper into a trash bag (this is where I almost gagged...), and then set the tub in my shower, turned the water on HOT, dumped some bleach in with it, his bowl and hides, and let the water run.
I did this for maybe 5 minutes or so--while I was dealing with Auryn: drying him off, taking a few pictures, then putting him in the tub over the flexwatt. I went back into the bathroom to scrub the tub out and dry it--and when I walked in there was a FLOOD in my bathroom. (it's a small shower-only setup--so not much of a lip on the shower)
The tub was covering the drain...and...yeah. It was a mess. I sopped it up with all of my towels and finally scrubbed and dried his enclosure...
Cleaning out his tub was an event today O.O It's a good thing I love that little bugger :)

True--some nice pictures. And, now that I've taken a shower myself, I don't smell like bleach anymore!
I guess that floor could have used a mopping, anyways :)

Oh but Auryn looks so pleased with himself LOL. Probably feels quite good having emptied out all his waste products too. Happy, clean snake...slightly frazzled owner....it's all good! :)

Re: Aaaah! Flood!
*sigh* And after all that, I decided it might be nice to buy the boy some nice, heavy exoterra hides (the rock-looking kinds). So, I drove to a PetCo ~25 minutes from here--it took a bit for me to figure out where it was, as I'm not too familliar with the area.
I bought him two of the small ones, as the medium ones looked way too roomy...
I get home, plop them in, and nudge Auryn into one so I can see how he fits. Well, he doesn't :) My boy's too fat for the small hides--alas. But I still think he'll be too small for the medium Exoterra. So, it looks like he gets to use the modified cool whip containers for a while longer. He seems to like them, when he's not under the paper...but he pushes them around pretty easily
Oh well...looks like it'll be a return trip to PetCo next week at some point to return them.

Hi,
Can't you "pad out" the medium hides by placing properly cleaned rocks inside them?
I spent 2 days cutting and drilling coconuts to make small snake hides and discovered that, even though I started with small coconuts (stop s******ing at the back), they seem too large for the smallest hatchling and the house snake so was planning on tryng this myself once I find some rocks.

Huh...I never thought of that :) Interesting idea...maybe when I return the small ones, I'll get the Med. ones and see if I can "pad" them out with something.

Put the lime in the coconut, you drink 'em both together
Put the lime in the coconut, then you feel better
Put the lime in the coconut, drink 'em both up  :carouse:

My little non eater - going to see if this makes her feel any more secure.
Or just make her drink more rum. :)
