what exactly is a butter???
i have herd that butters are just awesome lessers. any truth to this. people who work with butters shed some light on this for me.
Re: what exactly is a butter???
wow knowone knows. i am not verry suprised. a lot of people have no idea and a lot have different ideas.
Re: what exactly is a butter???
Email Mark and Kim Bell. Great people who know a bit about them. :)
Re: what exactly is a butter???
A butter is not related to a lesser at all. The difference between butter and lesser is that the butter gains yellow as it ages, whereas the yellow in the lesser decreases as it gets older. Butter is a dominant trait, whereas lesser is co-dominant.
Re: what exactly is a butter???
Why is Butter dominant and not incomplete dominant? When two butters are bred together, you get Leucistics.
Re: what exactly is a butter???
what are the average prices of butters these days. and what do you think they will be at this summer?

I have seen them for around $2500 - $3000 lately....No one can predict the future....no one will know until the time comes....Once someone predicts the prices, for some reason, the prices HAVE to be that price....Please....Lessers for $2500??? Comon? They were 25k last yr.....
Re: what exactly is a butter???
no co dom trait will hold at those high prices for verry long at all. because they are way to easy to make. all you need is one lesser and 10 normal females and boom you got 10-20 lessers. and that is just from one year of breeding. i saw one on ks about a 3 weeks ago for 1800 shipped.
Re: what exactly is a butter???
Matt a good way to think about these co dom breedings is to forget about just reproducing the same morph over and over. instead of making 20 lessers get a spider to breed it to and make lesser bees or just about any other co dom to raise the dollar value of the babies you are producing. :O

That's a perfect response, like with any morph.... there are a multitude of differtent things you can do. It's all up to the owner and what tingles your taste buds as far as producing eye candy. :)
Of course, now that you have mentioned these... I want one. Damn!

I agree Ed I plan on mixing all my co-doms together. The closest thing I have to normal breeding females are Hets, granite and reduced. The future is in the combinations. :carrot:
Re: what exactly is a butter???
Butters have more yellow. The baby butters have a darker red or darker blushing with more yellow on their backs and dorsal. It may be a subtle difference but it is still a difference. I like the Butter crosses more than I like the Lesser crosses. The Lesser Woma purple snake is still the bomb though! I am praying for one of those this year. The Butter will make you a better cross if you breed it out in my opinion. But people want to buy Lessers because they think that they will produce the Platty Daddy with them. Ralph made a Butter Daddy two years ago so they are very similiar and the same can be done with a Butter. I found the Butters to be way stronger feeders as well. I have two year old Lesser females that are 1000grams and won't eat while I have a 10 month old Butter female that weighs in at 920grams. Buy what you want and what makes you happy as they are both awesome snakes and the combo's from them blow everything else away in my book! I have bred my Lesser male and Butter male to different females this year. I will post pics when the babies start to hatch so you can make up your own minds!

i disagree with this comment. i'm sure there are plenty of lessers that feed extremely well. i know mine does. and it didn't take everyone a long time to reproduce lessers!
maybe it's just your lessers that didn't feed strong?

Re: what exactly is a butter???
i think butters and lessers may be similiar to different line of pastels like a graziani and a lemon? just my thoughts.
i think both look nice! :D
