Redtail boa...$499.99..?
What's the value on an adult MALE red tail boa?
I went to Petland to pick up my weekly feeder mice and there in their huge enclosure they built was an adult male redtail boa with a hefty price tag on it.
I've seen 7ft adult red tails for a 50 dollar adoption fee...so i'm wondering if someone handed Petland this snake and said "eh..too big for me...you can have it"..and then Petland turns around and makes a 5000% profit margin on it....
OH yeah! one more thing....it was housed with an anaconda
i hate petland

This is sad but I guess pet Stores don't really surprise me anymore

Re: Redtail boa...$499.99..?
LMAO $500 for a red tail male?
PLEASE... someone has to know nothing about boa's to pay that much for it.
Poor guy, hope he doesn't get eaten... :(
I'd really look in to getting your feeders elsewhere... No way would I support that kind of store at all with the horror stories I've heard about them.

I agree. I got my mini freezer in the mail today and will be placing a large order on RodentPro this evening.

Re: Redtail boa...$499.99..?
Im guessing it's a normal because no one just gives away an expensive morph. I've heard of nice normal BCCs going for MAYBE 300.00 but 500.00 is rediculous if you ask me. Some people might even consider 300.00 rediculous. Most pet stores are in it for the money, plain and simple. If people will buy it then they will sell it.

Re: Redtail boa...$499.99..?
I recently sold my female boa along with my friend's male boa, both in the 7 foot range for $200 together. Both of which were $200 a piece and the pet shop turned around and sold em for $249 each. Works out for them.

Re: Redtail boa...$499.99..?
If it is a BCC male and it is 500 dollars and it is clean and healthy...I would pay that. A full size Suri Male goes for that easily.
A normal Colombian isn't worth that kind of price tag though.

Are they smoking crack! $50 bucks tops for a normal male boa.I bet that snake dies of old age in that pet store before someone pays that much.

Re: Redtail boa...$499.99..?
i see baby columbians goin for $199.99 all the time at petco and petsmart lol so i look into it and meet a breeder that selles em $30 bucks a pice and theyre healthier prettier and proven full columbian not some wierd mix lol goes to show how much petstores are in it for the money...
-
Re: Redtail boa...$499.99..?
Pet stores here sell babies around $120
-
Re: Redtail boa...$499.99..?
Hm.. who really knows how much an adult boa is worth? I guess as much as someone else will pay for it. That particular price tag seems really high to me though, but pet stores mark everything up hugely.. maybe they intend on keeping it but marked it up in case some schmuck does feel like paying that much?

Re: Redtail boa...$499.99..?
$500 for a normal Male Colombian boa is extremely high. Like I said, I would pay that for a nice Suriname or Guyunan Male that is really pretty and from a respectable breeder, but not from a Petco. I wonder what they are thinking? Even for a Petco, that is a little off to me. Did you happen to ask them? I would've, but I'm a little blunt about things. haha

Fix yo' googles ol timer!! lmao he said petland. Not that the name of the :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:ty petchain makes a difference.
They were trying to sell and adult male for $699.99 at a family store last year around here. A 4'(?!?!) adult male that was ready to breed for $700 with a small tank? What a bunch of fools. Supposidly you could make all that money back in that year....You can get adult males with nice color for under $200 from a reputable breeder. Hmmmmm $500 for a sick snake OR $200 for a healthy beauty....Where do I want my money to go to:salute:

If a pet store is not in it for the money then what are they doing there. You don't open a pet store because you want to get rich. Its nice to say I would do this and that, but unless your willing to sink a good chunk of change into a business then you need to be less critical of prices. Its a free country and they can charge whatever they want. Somebody will most likely buy it to because someone almost always does.

You can easily if you had a female or two ready to go.

Yes, If you had a couple females ready, a large supply of rats ready, a rack setup, and people to buy them. Eitherway, its an outrageous price

jake that is a good look for you. hahaha. we need to get together again and talk snakes.

Re: Redtail boa...$499.99..?
For a standard BCI male, or even female for that matter, $499.99 is not realistic at all. I co-own a reptile store in which I have normal BCI males (in the 7' range) priced at $149.99 and females in that same size range for about $174.99. People buy big boas at these prices left and right and these prices seem fit for my customers. Baby Columbians run for $129.99 and so people are willing to pay another $30 or so to get a breedable specimen.

Re: Redtail boa...$499.99..?
I actually work at Petland in Charlotte, NC. I hate how the whole chain of stores has acquired a bad reputation because of select stores choosing to keep their place unclean or make crazy decisions. What many people don't realize is that Petland are franchise owned. So every single Petland is owned and ran by a different person. My store actually won Store of the Year this past year for all of the Petlands. But when my general manager went to a store in Atlanta last week, the Petland there was dirty and they knew nothing about ANY of the animals, be it snakes, hamsters, puppies, whatever. I'll admit, the people in charge of the reptiles at my store may not know everything, but they do everything they can. And they are always willing to take friendly advice, be it from me or a customer who has had a specific kind of herp and knows a lot about them. So i think it's really crappy to say that a Pet Store Chain is no good based on your expirence with one store. Just my :2cent: worth tho.

You have a point, but in my experience...and a lot of others as well, it's not just one pet store. It's usually the Petco's that are problematic.
