Since when do prego girls stuff themselves into water bowls? (No mites.. maybe she doesn't like the new aspen?)

My gravid girl has been hanging out in her water bowl off and on also. She's displaced water and soaked her tub several times. I think it's partly due to their need for increased humidity, and partly that being pregnant need to relieve some of that extra weight and pressure. (of course I'm not sure of the last part... just me remembering my pregnancies and anthropomorphizing... )

Hm.. maybe I'll give her tub a little extra spritzing; though, now that her water was displaced into the aspen, it is set up perfectly for a humidity raise.. maybe she jsut wanted to do it herself? :)

Call me crazy, but shouldn't the water bowl be big enough for the whole snake to soak in?

    Great pics by the way!

for a breeder size female that would be a big water bowl.

I don't recall seeing any major breeders using larger water bowls for their snakes but I could be wrong.. I am not sure what I would even use if I went bigger; this is the largest heavy "crock" dog bowl I could find!

    You're crazy. :P

Now that's out of the way, no you do not need to have a water bowl big enough for the animal to soak in. Bps should not soak with any regularity, and if they do then it's likely there are some issues with that snake. (ie. could be a meal that was too large, mites, or inadequate humidity)

She did take down a nice medium rat on Friday.. maybe now the reality is settling into her digestive tract? She does have eggs cooking in there too..

I thought if they were still feeding, then they weren't gravid? I'd get one of the breeders to weigh in on that though! She's purty though!

No I love words. why you feeling so wordy(verbose) today??

I get incredibly circumlocutory from time to time and have to use the vernacular in order to convey my mind.. :D

Most people when breeding feed females smaller food. I know when I've got ball pythons breeding I only offer small rats instead of the regular mediums. just my :2cent:.

That's where I'm confused. I've read that gravid females won't eat at all, won't eat more than one prey item, some eat some don't, to stop feeding them, to offer smaller sizes, let them eat if they keep eating, it's good if they keep eating, it's bad when they keep eating, etc. I'm confused!

Good luck with that female! Has she shed (Pre-Lay Shed) yet? If not, that might be why she's soaking. I've read (and seen) that they take a "pre-lay soak" right before their Pre-Lay Shed.

She should be going into shed anytime now; I am watching her daily like a hawk. \
My female that laid last year, ate right up until a week or so before laying (we actually didn't know she was cooking eggs; we bred her to our male but had the sexes mixed up, lol.)
