    Wierdest feeding shot Ever!
This was odd..! I went to feed SoCo a rat (a little bigger than fuzzy size) today. Well, you know how a snake grabs the prey with its mouth and coils around to constrict? He never opened his mouth.. the rat just crawled into a loop of his neck/upper body, and SoCo tightened up and constricted it like that! Weeeeird.. I immediately left him alone after closing his tub; I hope he eats it after this weirdness..
Anyone else notice their Spiders have weird feeding responses? I never noticed this with my others, but he seems to get really shaky/nervous only when aiming for the rat.. maybe a tad wobbly-headed?

Ball pythons are loony...I had a big female kill a rat by pinning it against the wall of her tub one time...she ate it...

    They're weird sometimes.

that's unique! he's smarter than the average snake!

mine, on the other hand, bites, coils under, and then after it's been constricted mine lets go but at that point the mouse is laying on top of my snake's neck. so now the snake is all like: "AAAAAAGH! IT'S GOT ME!!!!!" and retreats to his hide for a minute to regain his composure :8:

    what a maroon!

I had pretty much the same thing last time I fed the boa. The rat just kind of walked into the right (or wrong for it) location, and Lola just tightened up on it. Only thing that concerned me was the chance of it biting her, since it's head wasn't 'captured', but it was all good.

When Loki was younger, he often got a bit overexcited when it came to eating.
Several times he struck at his food and not quite getting it.... That looked pretty funny....the rat trying to scurry away, and Loki curled around the rat's tail.
Another "oddity" of sorts, probably the funniest thing I've ever seen...
Loki once bit (and curled) on himself. The best part was what he relaxed a bit, he actually started working his jaws onto "his prey"
After a minute, he kinda stopped....you could almost see when it hit him....
    "wait.....something's not right here":rolleye2:

oh that reminds me of the time mine let go of the dead mouse and in the process of trying to find the head decided to start swallowing his own tail. took him a few seconds to figure that one out :P

I fed him a second one (since they are pretty small) and he took that one the normal way. Little weirdos..

do you always feed live? reason being, i only feed f/t or fresh killed to my GTPs and i have one that feeds like this exclusively (no strike, just coiling and constricting) and one that goes back and forth from normal strike and constrict to a more passive method. kind of nice tho, all i have to do is rub a mouse on their coils and if they are ready to eat they wrap then slowly constrict for a few and eat. no striking, just a slow easy meal. i always thought it was because they somehow instinctively "knew" that the strike wasnt necessary from feeding dead food items. just a theory tho... they could just be trying to make us wonder...

That is awesome.. I usually feed rats live, that are a smidgen larger than the ones I fed today; but I knew that he needed to eat today and didn't feel like waiting for a week until the ratties grew some more..
I wish that they would all eat like this. :) I am going to actually try this next time I feed him; lightly dropping the rat onto the coiled part..

My male pastel does this once inawhile. He also just started swallowing the rats head while it was still alive, rat never moved until his whole head was inside Brunos mouth  .Of course he constricted it then.

Then there's the butt-first swallowing; my BCI did this a few months back with a pretty sizeable rat. Just so weird looking, and so "against the grain" it gives me the chills...!
I have heard people say how their snakes did this, but started at the tail tip of the rodent..

LOL these stories reminds me of the female Argentine boa i used to have... she used to grab her prey in the middle of the body and then start to swallow from there , the head and ass end of the rat actually met each other before being swallowed
also once she completly missed her piglet and threw a coil around herself it was only when she tried eating herself that she realised what she was doing lol.....i miss those argies :( they were complete loons

if your going to feed your python in its cage id recomend you switch to paper towels, so your snake doesn't ingest the aspen.

That is awsome, and it remindes me of one of the last times I fed one of my het albinos, he struck at the rat got ahold of the tail and started squezzing. I thought was odd but the fact that yours didnt even strike with its mouth open is funny.

I'd be worried about those "weird" feedings because the rats face was close to the snakes chest scales... But yes weird shot! What was spider thinking

I had one do that to, she used the middle of her body to pin the rat against her hide. I freaked and opened the tub, but she killed it like that. A good demonstration of how strong they really are.
