That time of year again...are you prepared?
The days just keep getting warmer and warmer.....Are you ready for a Spring and Summer full of field herping?

I saw my first wild reptile of the year today.......a little Mediterranean Gecko on the side of the house.

I just picked up a new pair of snake boots and got may 'field herping pack' from behind the seat of my truck to make sure everything was 'fresh'...so I am just about ready to go :D

Here is a Mediterranean gecko shot from last year :)

Cool little gecko! I saw the first turtle of the year at the lake near my house- he was still covered in mud.

Yeah, It'll probably be until May before I take my first herpin' trip up to Mt. Misery in Valley Forge. Still got snow in my backyard! I did however, get a nifty new Stanley stainless steel thermos.....that sucker keeps my tea piping hot for at least 12 hours! Got a nifty herpin' pack too, with all sorts of pockets and stuff. I'm hopin to photograph some copperheads this year. Maybe Amber (ivylea) will come along and bring the girls....you're invited too Meghan! I'm ready...:D Can't wait for the weather to warm up. I usually bring the bunnies along with their playpen, so they can have fun too!

I am in CT, and i am about to bust from excitement. I was worried that the vernal pools wouldn't have enough water, but with all the rains and now the rapid increase in temp the ice and snow is melting the the vernals are filling. Just waiting for the first peepers to call. I was in Fl two weeks ago and loved every second of the trip, finding turtles, and plenty of lizards and frogs, made me excited for spring!!!

Saw my first wild herp of the year yesterday. About a five foot water mocassin. It was climbing up onto the island in my pond. The Canadian goose that is nesting on the island wasn't too thrilled and chased it off. I finally spotted it in the water, but as soon as I started easing up on it, it took off before I could get a picture. Let the games begin.

I have a feeling this years going to be a good one. Already ive found several blue tail skinks, a few salamanders, and a Musk turtle.
    Bring on the snakes.

    Good luck to all! :)

I broke my hook last year flipping over a truck hood, ive got to get a new one soon. Until I get a new one ill be using a big stick:cool:.

I caught a baby garter snake (not more than 6" long...wee little wiggly worm!) on my front sidewalk yesterday...let it go in the grass. And there's a very pretty green anole living up on our balcony railing. Not shy at all and lets you get very close to it. I'll try and get pics next time I see it.
