Beautiful snake and the tail looks just like a Taiwan Beauty. How are they temper wise? I would think docile if handled like most asians?

Re: Cave Rat Snake....
I would guess being some what nippy would make sense on my if it eats something that flys it gets meaner theory which is a very week but somewhat valid theory, hear me out.
Typical docile colubrids eat rats, mice, lizards. Think about it black rats, trans pecos rats, corns, gophers, etc. Most you can catch wild and if you use care you can pick them up and they won't bite. Takes some skill but I can catch most rats and pits with no restraint and no real proplem getting them to settle down. If captive bred they are almost all just puppy dogs.
Next on the scale bat eaters. Like childrens and spotted pythons. Generly these buggers are just little snappy types. They can't do any harm and tend to calm down but my new pair get all billy bad a-- when I put them back in their viv and shut the door. They eat mostly bats in the wild. Cave rats, same deal and many don't know this but radiated rats eat lots of bats too! Even tais and blues eat rats all can be snappy and most wild caught will keep you way on your toes.
Now move to BIRD EATERS most are down right psyco. Think about it rainbow boas, most are cool as babies but grow into snappy adults. Retics eat a LOT of birds as do african rock pythons as babies and juvies. Then there are the tree boas all of which seem to consider any heat signature to be struck at with a lot of hostility. Of course mangrove snakes eat mostly birds in the wild as adults!
The three that really mess up my formula are
1. Texas Rat Snakes not much of a bird eater and mean suckers even some captive bred, yet some are really chill.
2. Black Racers, not much of a bird eater and well I don't need to say much more do I :rolleye2:
3. Many of the water snakes are psyco so may be a fish diet is as bad for the attitude as a avian one?
I know my theory is crap. LOL but seriously most snakes that eat anything with wings doe seem to move up the mean scale just a bit anyway,

About how big do they get saw one of these at a show this weekend and man they look great
-
Re: Cave Rat Snake....
They typically get around 7' I believe. Not quite as big as the Blue Beauties or Taiwans can get.

Re: Cave Rat Snake....
Cave dwellers are so cool. Yours is very yellow.. I guess they get the grey look as they age? I saw a pair of seven footers at the NARBC show, they're just breathtaking.

Re: Cave Rat Snake....
They can vary a bit in coloration, depending on locale....mine comes from a Cameroon Highlands bloodline and will go through a color change as it ages.
