    Herpstat Pro Confusion
I just recieved my Herpstat Pro today and I was stoked to rip it open and hook everything up. I bought it because I could run 4 seperate heating sources. What I wanted was to run my lights at 92 from about 8-8, then let the undertank heaters kick on at about 82 till about 8 in the morning. I was also under the impression the bulbs could be programmed to turn themselves on at 8 and off at 8 p.m. as well as the undertank heaters being able to be programmed...buttttttt..I'm finding out I cannot do this or maybe I'm just doin something wrong. If you have a herpstat pro or any experience with them and what I'm tring to accomplish I would love any help...PLEASE....thanks MJ

You need a timer to make everything come on and go off when you want, I dont think the Herpstat Pro comes with a built in timer.

The pro has a night drop feature for each of the 4 outputs. That will allow you to set it to change temps for any of the heating sources. It will not turn lights off or on but will reduce the power to the heating element (lights or uth) to provide the right temperature according to the settings. Hope this makes sense!

I did see the night drop feature but I only saw where the whole system wasset up for the same night drop time. Do you know of a way to individually set each output for a diff time???

Here is a link to the manual. It should be pretty self explanatory. If you still have some questions, I would email Dion at Spyder Robotics and he will be more than happy to help. I don't personally have the Pro model.

Contact Dion Brewington at Spyder www.support@herpstat.com. I know this unit can also be run into a computer to change programs and he would know the best way. I contacted them for advise with mine and he was real prompt and helpful.

Dion is really nice - I'm sure he'd be happy to help you work out the technical details.

We have 2 Herpstat Pros and we love'em...but we don't use the night drop feature so I can't tell you much about it.

Yeah I wasn't going to use the night drop features too much also. What I do need, even though I looked at some old search posts, is where to put my sensors in 20 gallon tank. For the basking light should I stick it on the side of the tank or underneath the substate. I'm a little confused what to do in that department.

You don't need a timer with the herpstat pro

outputs 3 & 4 can be used for lighting with simulated sunrise, sunset and even a moonlite feature

yeah but the thing I wanted to do was cut the light out at 8pm and for the undertank heater to automatically kick on at 8pm till 800am, then the basking light turn back on, cutting the undertank heater off...that's where somebody mentioned the timer.

In our 4' x 2' x 2' cages, we have a flourescent light and set it to be on 12 hours, off 12 hours, set to a light timer. We bought a power strip at Petco that has half the outlets available to set to day and nighttime cycles, half just regular outlets...this is it.

    Re: Herpstat Pro Confusion
well the herpstat pro would turn the light on using the simulated sunrise then turn the light off using simulated sunset. Not to sure how you could set it up so that the UTH turns on at night to 80 then turns off.

You could maybe set it up so that the you have the high as 80 for at night and using the night drop feature but in reverse set the temp so low that it shuts off completely for during the day.

another solution could be to just use the UTH all day at 90 use night drop to 80 for at night and use either the simulated sunrise/sunset mode for the lighting or just use a timer to turn it on and off.
