My New House Snake

I "won" this Tanzanian House Snake at the NARBC auction. Donated to the auction by LLL Reptile.

The people at LLL told me that it has the same husbandry as a corn snake. If anyone can give me some more husbandry info on these House Snakes, I would appreciate it. :)

Great Tanzanian Red Snake! They are my favorite and what I mostly breed. There is no need to sweat taking care of them, like a corn snake is a good way to put it. Really easier, give him mice of the right size, make sure he has heat and a cooler side of his viv, give him water and hides and you really can't mess up.

Bullet proff honestly.

One thing to note that is not a L. fuliginosus as most people think they are, hell I even thought that and need to fix my blog to reflect what that really is.

That snake is a Lamprophis maculatus check out this wiki article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamprophis

That will only matter if you get a mate and breed that fellow. If you have any specific questions just ask but honestly if you just plan to keep the snake and don't want to breed it, there is not much more to say. If you have successfully kept any snake these things are a breeze.

Yes! Trev is a kick ace snake breeder, who has many Hosue snakes! Can't go wrong with him!:carrot: Congrats on the Hosue snake, D!

BTW I love the head shot, great camera work there. You can easily see why Lamprophis means shining!

I love these little guys! I recent aquired one of these and one thing I really like is the very firm grip they have for such a little snake :) I also find they like to coil up reall tight around your finger almost like a ring:P

You said it! I still remember the first time I picked up a hatchling house snake and was absoultely stunned by the power the little guy had relative to his size. If these things grew to the size of mid sized pythons I think they would be really a danger :carrot:

It is honestly stunning the power that they have, (again relative to their size). I often wonder if they are more closely related to boids rather then colubrids. They have pits, they eat just about anything they can swallow. Sure seem more like a small python then a african corn snake to me :rolleye2:

lol I love that. Do you plan to produce any this year? I've been looking into getting a few as sorta the clean up for rodents but haven't found a reliable captive breeder yet.

Here's an unbiased opinion for you, the first time I ever saw one of these I had never heard of them before, and I instantly thought they looked like a tiny python.

I expect some Stripes and perhaps a clutch or two of reds in the fall of this year. I could do quite a bit of breeding this summer with some marginal (size wise) females but decided to hold off and really put some size on my girls.

I am working to procure some standard adult fuliginosus too, if I pick up that pair I will have some of them (if all goes well) about August.

Sorry not to respond sooner but did not see your question. Also Don at Mfezi.com has some cool house snakes in right now if you are ready. He is about as first class as they come.

Nick Mole who I got my Stripes from also has some lovely Pastels on Kingsnake right now. Nick is also top notch all the way! Pastels are pricey but beautiful. If he had sub adults or adults I would pick them up but what he has are baby 06s.
