    Acurite thermometer failure
Well my Acurite thermometer just stopped working last night. Before it did though it was registering crazy temps. I use UTHs with a thermostat and the temps & humidity have been perfect (80-82° on the cool side, 90-93° on the warn, humidity at around 55%)but last night it was registering over 100° on the warm side and 90° on the cool side with only 23% humidity then it just went blank and shut off. I replaced the battery and still nothing.

I'm going today to get a replacement but I was curious if anyone else experienced a similar problem with their thermometer.

I've never had that problem with the few I've used in the last two years. It definitely sounds like a new one is in order. How long have you had that particular unit?

**DING, ding, DING!!!*** Oooooh, oohh, meeeeeee!:taz:

Exact same thing happened to one of mine. I thought it was the battery, but putting a new one in didn't get the numbers to come back on...so I tapped the screen and pushed the two (front & back) halves together. (I thought something had worked loose.) Nuthin'!:(

So, I called the company. (I've kept a copy of the mfg. instructions). There's a one year? (I'm pretty it said a year) warranty. Calling their cust. serv., I found out that they have an occas. unit fail, in just that way.

Call their 800# and let them know. They sent me a free (no shipping either:D *BAG*)replacement. :carrot: :carrot:

They also act up if you get them wet. If you let them air dry overnight though, they seem fine.

If that's not the case try using the warranty if it's not too old.

I meant to update this thread over the weekend but forgot. Anyway, I just ending up taking it back to wallyworld and exchanging it for a new one. Gotta love walmart's exchange policy. Here's how it went:

I walk up to the customer service counter. There are two large women with their eyes half shut, about to fall asleep at any moment. I have the thermometer in a grocery sack. No receipt, no package, not even the walmart bag.

Me: Hey this thermometer quit working all of a sudden. I'm gonna go ahead and get a new one to exchange it with ok?

Large lazy customer service lady: What is that?

    Me: A digital thermostat.

LLCSL: *SIGH* Umm..ok but I can't let you have the package for the new one.

    Me: OK. Thanks.

So the new one works fine. Must have just been a defective unit.

No it didn't get wet. The temps just went crazy and the screen went blank. It was weird.

It probably has something to do with needing the old packaging so they just took the new packaging instead. Walmart has weird policies.

Same thing happened to me last year (between October and November sometime). I take my ball python out to hold, thermometer's fine. Come back, blank. I've tried replacing it with several different batteries.. no go. Gotta get a move on that warranty! New animal on Sunday, if all goes well, you know. ;)

Good thing you got a new one.

That's true....I forgot about THAT happening.  Precious literally spilled his entire water bowl over his, and it "shorted out"...dead as a door nail....... So I replaced it w/a newer one I had on hand.....a day or two later I noticed the soaked one was working again. Sheesh.....but at least I didn't have to go out and BUY one! :carrot::rolleye2:
