Auryn's First Playdate :)

Well, it's been a week...so I decided to take Auryn out for a brief photo op/handling session. He was a little skittish at first: "Who are you?!" "You're scary!"... but after sitting quietly, he decided that I wasn't -too- terrible, and he explored a little.

I kept it short--probably a little under 10 minutes. But I got a few photos in that span of time :)

He's not terribly "Lemony" yet...Kara and Kev both told me the day I picked him out that he'd probably yellow up after a few sheds. They also told me that many young pastels go through an "ugly" phase... No matter what phase he's in, I think he's beautiful!

His pattern still blows me away--and he's got this little thing in a blush on his back--I call it a "vampire bite", Sarah described it (in a MySpace photo comment) as a "bulls eye". It's really neat.

:giggle: I'm pretty sure he just didn't know what to do when I was holding him. "Well...whatever this giant heat signature is, it's warm...but then again, it's kinda HUGE and scary..."

It looks like you might have enjoyed that first handling session a bit more than Auryn, but least that first week of acclimation is over. ;) Congrats again on that cutie. I like the 'bite marks'. :D

Awww Kim he's a cutie! Glad to hear he handled the handling reasonably well. Can't wait to see him as an adult, he's got some lovely markings and blushing going on.

Do it! You know you want to! ;) I'm so glad I decided on a Lemon Pastel as my first snake---Auryn's just a doll. Spiders are beautiful, too though. Maybe you should get one of each! :D

Yeah--I'm glad he's past that first week, too. Now we can just settle into life together :) He still hasn't figured out hides yet, but he loves to live under his KRAFT paper... I hope his little "vampire bite" sticks around--it's really cute.

:sunny: Isn't he, though? I'm so proud of him. I don't think he's 100% sure about me yet, but in time I'm sure he'll adjust to his "godzilla" (as Kev puts it in his book) :) I can't wait to see him all grown up, either! But I hope he doesn't grow too fast... :D

Well, he's the first BP I've ever owned, so I guess only time will tell. Right now, I'm not in the right living situation to be breeding anything :) Once I've graduated from college, have a steady job and a larger living space, maybe I could consider bringing more animals into my collection and (if I find myself so inclided) breeding them.

Right now, Auryn's just my very pretty pet :D

I get to introduce him to my skeptical non-reptile-loving boyfriend today--I'm convinced Auryn's going to make him fall in looove.

So--just as an update: My boyfriend came up last night and he and Auryn had their first interaction.

Mostly, it was me taking Auryn out and holding him. Brian was willing to admit that yes, Auryn was cute. He wouldn't touch him, though. He just watched Auryn slither on the bed for a bit, then I put him back for the night. Bri says "eventually" he'll touch/handle Auryn. Guess it'll be a gradual process :) He doesn't seem afraid of Auryn necessarily...I think he might just be concerned about the unpredictablility of a snake. *shrugs*

Anyway, I call that a success :) He was skeptical when I told him over the phone that Auryn was "cute" :D

its funny...my husband is pretty much in the same boat as your boyfriend. he's cool with it as long as it's in the cage. he has even watched him eat twice now, so hes definitely curious about it, but he doesn't want to be around when I have him out of the enclosure yet.

the way I feel about it, as long as he is comfortable with the snake in the house, it's fine if he never gets to the point of handling. I'm just happy he puts up with all my pets and hobbies :sunny:
