I've never heard of this, what book or site said that a humidity gauge is not needed if there is a water bowl and what not?

Re: wicked happy
Humidity is pretty important. A guage would be a good thing to have especially during the shed. You need to keep it kinda high.

Re: wicked happy
yeah dude you won't regret it. it takes all the guess work out of caring for your animal. the digital thermometer/hydrometers are in the lawn & garden section at walmart. $10-$13 or so.
and btw, congrats on your first shed. boost the humidity up and it should go well. post some pics after the shed!

Re: wicked happy
And if you do'nt find it in lawn & garden...check the hardware area. Should be in one of those two places. ;)

Mine was in lighting near the timers and fan stuff.
As for what people told you, a water bowl is an important part of maintaining the humidity, but that is not always all that is needed. When my snakes go into blue, I like to keep my humidity levels at no less than 75%. They need the moisture in the air to loosen their skin up enough to get out of it. If there is not enough humidity prepare for the snake to shed in bunches of little pieces.

Have a spray bottle handy filled with water. You can mist the inside of the enclosure and also you can put a bigger water dish in there. What type of enclosure do you have and what do you use for substrate??

I actually found mine by accident. I was looking for nightlights and bulbs, and they had it right there with the nightlights
