i just had to let this out

to the people here that are in a relationship/married, did the person you're with ever have a problem with you because you have snakes and other reptiles as pets? i ask this because sometimes i wonder if my tarantula/snake hobby might "scare off" the girls and thats probably why they get no interest in me.as friends sure but more than that,i dont think they think of me like that.

exactly what i've been telling myself for over 4 years now.but even at this point it's starting to get to me.but even then, i'll NEVER give up my hobbies for some girl that i probably wont last too long with anyway.

I'm not married, but I -am- a girl. Guess what? I dig reptiles! And while I don't think I'd ever want a spider as a pet...it certainly wouldn't scare me off. Not ALL girls are petrified of things with scales or eight legs. Maybe you should shop for girls with interests similar to your own--or find girls with minds open enough to at least meet your scaley friends and see that they're not so bad after all. :)

AS for snakes, my wife has wanted one for years. It was my 12 yo daughter that convinced me that we should have one for a pet.

my girlfriend hates em but she is getting used to it now. we have been together for over 2 years by the time my first snake came around so she was already planning on sticking through to the end

I use to be scared to death of anything with more than 4 legs and my husband (before we were married) always told me how he wanted to get a "goliath bird eater" tarantula, "the largest tarantula in the world" dontchaknow! My response..."it'll be a cold day in hell before you bring some gigantic man eating spider into MY house".....
Now we have (had) two, our male finally died and MY adult female is 10+ inches, sitting in a 20 gallon long about 2 feet behind me right here in the living room and I LOVVEEEE my Shela girl, along with all my other tarantulas and scorpions. :D
Snakes....never had a fear of them. A school trip to the local zoo when I was 5 and a back yard full of garter snakes (and 2 brothers to chase me around with them and try to scare me) made sure I'd not grow up with those fears.

I agree with the others...if some woman doesn't like your pets, either she'll get some education or move on.
Fear and/or hatred of something is simply ignorance, plain and simple and if some girl is that plain and simple...she's not worth you, or your pets' time and effort. Granted, it took me a while to even consider looking at a spider, but my husband was patient and actually, it was my son who finally drew the straw that broke the camel's back....he wanted a tarantula. :eek:
Basically, if a woman is open minded, even if she doesn't like your snakes, chances are, she'll come around.
There is, IMO, nothing worse than having a hobby and a love that is not shared or at the least, respected, by both people. :(

yeah i see what you're all saying.i guess the only way i'll find a girl thats right for me, is when i go to a university and when i go to the entomology department there, the girls there obviously like insects and spiders so maybe i'll get a chance there.even then,that's still a few until i get out of community college.

too young? maybe,im only 18.right now my main focus are my hobbies and school.most of the time i dont think about getting a girlfriend.the only reason that it suddenly occured to me was because earlier today, the girl that ive been "talking to" for the past couple of weeks, turns out she has a bf already.she tells me he's constantly mad at her.i guess she didnt see that i would've been a better bf for her, and she likes tarantulas but HATES snakes.i even showed her my blood and the most she did was touch her for like asecond but nothin beyond that.

So true - "LOOKING" for a girlfriend is like LOOKING for a $100 bill on the sidewalk - it isnt going to happen when you want it too. My love came right when I wasnt looking or wanting a new boyfriend, but we compliment eachother quite nicely and now that I look back at it, it was perfect timing.

HE never told me that he thought I was weird for my hobby, but he thought I was worth the effort and time to at least try and see where I was coming from. And now he's researching, helping me feed/clean the snakes AND the rats, and buying snakes left and right. He loves me for ME and everything that comes WITH me -

you just have to just twidle your thumbs and do your thing until she comes around for ya. IT will happen, and when it does, dont let the opportunity slip by!

My husband is not a snake person, he had no idea when we got married that at some point I would want to have a snake which turned into 10 as of now, and not planning on stopping anytime soon :D .

The most important he loves me and whatever makes me happy is all that matter to him, as long as do not ask him to be involve with my snakes he is fine with the idea.

Being in a relationship is to be able to understand and support one another passion.

Ya know, I've had chicks freak out over em, but then I tell them they are harmless and make some snake joke and they are cool with them. Besides, a chick who wouldnt wanna be with you over some reptiles is as lame as a guy not wanting to be with a girl cause "I think she gained 5 pounds over the winter time."

The best way to attract that certain someone, is to be happy with who you are and in what you are doing. I completely agree with Allison. If you are constantly 'looking' you won't project confidence because you're constantly worrying about what this or that person is thinking. Let it go, and don't worry. You're young, and the world is at your feet. ENJOY! :D

I agree 100%, The best thing you can do is "work on you". Get your education, save up some money, have yourself a car and get yourself your own apartment/house...and be yourself... Girls dig a guy that can take care of himself.

If you are currently "looking" Believe me, you'll have alot better results not looking for girls than when you are looking. Honestly though girls should be the last of your worries...and if you do find a girl who ultimately and genuinely cares about you she shouldn't worry about snakes and turantulas because that's one of your hobbies that mean alot to you and she should support that...

With the amount STD's rapidly growing in america...

I don't think the "hit it and forget it game" is really the best idea... I've had my share of fun in my time... but seriously I can't tell you how much better it feels to have a great girl that's there for you the next morning that's going to be with you thru the good and bad vs. some girl who's already been with 2/3's of your graduating class and harbours 37+ std's.

I think what Adam was "really" meaning was that you should date and have fun with many girls and get a feel for what type of person you want to be with. Your 18 years old, you have plenty of time to find "that girl"...

Well keep in mind this is a family friendly forum Adam and there are many young users on here that read what you type and look up to every word. By what you typed It could be seen how a young kid could read that and take it the wrong way.

Steve, Adam is right. He said when he was 18. And we all know Adam is 57 and lives in a shack with his potato bug farm. ;)

I know it's been said, but 18 = plenty of time to meet someone, so don't feel like you're under pressure. :)

Do you have other, more traditional pets in addition to your herps & inverts? If you have a dog & there's a dog park nearby, this may be a good way to meet someone...or perhaps by participating in other pet-related activities. Check with your local SPCA/adoption/rescue groups & see what kind of events and/or activities they sponsor & check it out. Most of the time when you meet true, dyed-in-the-wool pet lovers, they'll grow to like less-mainstream pets once they get to know them.

I'm not criticizing you Adam... I just didn't want our friend to take what you said as the cool thing to do...

Instead of telling the guy to relax, get educated, focus on other things in life and that time will bring you a right girl that loves you and your passion....Nope..you're 18...hit it and quit it!! I wonder if you have a sister or daughter and would like someone to hit it and quit it!
