Mortification!

Um...wow. I just discovered that I'm on UTube...

I was in a bellydancing class last Spring (here at school) and I was a part of our class that decided we would put a routine together for a fundraiser one of our members was heading up... Well, it was video-taped. I knew that much--Mai said she was going to post it. And it's on UTube. O.O For all the world to see.

To tape it? Sure! I was all for seeing the tape afterward to see how we did. I guess I just didn't think: Easiest place for everyone in the group to see it = YouTube!

Oh well...I guess it serves me right. :) That night, we all thought we did so well...the video says differently, I think.

Well, a few years ago I bought a bellydancing instructional DVD--I've always been interested in taking lessons, but there isn't really anywhere near where I live that offers lessons.

When I moved out to Eastern MA for school, one of the grad students here had been taking lessons for awhile and she taught "Bellydancing for Beginners" at the gym one night a week. I jumped at the chance and it -really- was a lot of fun. It's very empowering and it makes you feel really good about yourself (until you end up on YouTube ;)).

Our instructor graduated that Spring, though...so no bellydancing classes for me since. Though, I suppose being so close to Boston, I could find an actual class if I had the money to do so :)

Seriously, if you can find a place to take classes, I'd suggest it. Bellydance is amazing--it doesn't discriminate. It's about a woman's body in a very positive way...it doesn't matter if you're thin or fat or what the color of your skin is. Just very awesome.

You know, I actually have been talking about taking a class, I know there are several in my area. I may just go ahead and find one to start, I really did like your youtube.
I've already got a great outfit for it, too!

That brings me back... I went to an international school with 200 students representing 91 countries. Every year we'd do a big show exhibiting different dances, songs, music, etc from around the globe. Didn't hurt that we were all 17-19... what a great age :)

Aleesha (Recycling Goddess) does belly dancing as well. I'd love to see a video of her, too! It really does look like a lot of fun and great exercise....I might like to try that someday, too... (I'll bet my hubby wouldn't even mind paying for it... :P )

i thought you all looked great! about the same as our class looks when we dance.

it is GREAT fun... what a blast. my girlfriends and i are leaving our class and starting up our own in my living room :P less cost and we can do whatever dances we want this way. we are all buying one dvd and we'll work our way through them :)

alas, our videos aren't family friendly so you may find a copy of one in the night drop!

I have a few instructional DVDs by Neena and Veena--they're twins of (I believe) Egyptian descent and really good. I'd try those out with your group :) It's neat you and your classmates are gonna do that!
