Why no insulation on the inside?

OK, I'm looking at that, and scratching my head - how is it sealed to keep in temps? I must be missing something - color me confused!

    I was wondering that too..

Vaughn, how well does that hold the heat? does it seal up any good when you close the doors? what temp is the room it's in?

I have my flex, Helix and fans all set, just haven't decided what I'm going to put them in, I have too many options LOL....Contemplating ditching the flex for an oil filled heater and using my hall closet

I assume he has a stable 82 in the room and if he can get 88 inside the closet with the door closed, those egg boxes will hold enough heat for the rare times that he is going to open the incubator. I am going with the same design however I will be using insulation sheeting on the inside and per Adam's advice, an piece of insulation overlapping the inside of one door to create a seal when they are closed. That should be plenty to get the job done.

Thats exactly how I plan on doing mine if I dont go with the closet idea, right down to the room temp and the insulation method, only I'm just going to make the shell with some spare MDF thats kicking around.

I'm pretty miffed though, because I have this Coke fridge that I totally want to use. I think it would be perfect for so many reasons, but I just dont see anywhere I can put it in my apartment without it being a huge eyesore:mad::(

    http://kijiji.ebayimg.com/i18/05/i/0...b6/c2ab_20.JPG

I was thinking about setting it up at my brothers house, then taking any clutches I get, over there for incubating, but I really don't like that idea

Keep it at your house, who cares what it looks like. It is for hatching eggs in, not adding to the decor.

No deal, I keep my snake keeping on the extreme downlow, there are people that have been to my apartment 100's of times that have no idea that I own a single snake or rat, and thats exactly how I want it......

I'm with you on this man. Gotta keep it on the low...

Check out Home Depot if you canucks have it up there. The cabinet Vaughn got from Lowe's was $160. I found the same type (made my closet maid) for $80 at HD. I got the whole thing:

    Cabinet
    Shelf standards
    Shelves
    Brackets
    Screws

for $180. I have insulation at home. I'm going to silicone it or gorilla glue it to the all sides (and a strip to overlap the insides of the door) and then screw in the shelf standards. Finish it off with 2 pieces of 11" heat tape and a Herpstat and I'm good to go!

Thanks to Vaughn for the ideas and Adam for the advice!

Vermiculite and water ... mix in little bits of water out of time until the vermic will clump in your hand like a snowballs, but if you use all your strength to squeeze you won't be able to get a drop of water out of it.

Put it in a sealed box and presto! ... perfect humidity that will last the entire 2 months. ;)

hey jen, last season i checked humidity and it was around 98% give or take a bit. i had a basic hydrometer that could be a few % off.

i paid more attention to the eggs! watch them for dimpling or molding. getting the vermiculite mixed right, and using a sealed eggbox will keep you straight.
