He's so knew, poor guy doesnt have a name yet! haha. He shed a few days ago, eats rats already, and loves to be handled. Its my first snake ever and im in love! haha.

    Re: My first BP!!!
thanks alot guys! man, i cant seem to leave him alone! i have a 1x1 foot of flexwatt that i also got from the dealer (she threw it in for $10), and its having a hard time heating up the damp substrate :(, so for now, he's on bare glass, as its staying at 90 degrees. hope thats cool?

yea, i figured if i was gonna get a snake, i should do it right the first time, so i got it from a reputable dealer

heres 2 more. i may be seeing things, but i swear that under a good light, i can see a hazy kind of shade to him. i take it thats the "ghost" in him?

    Re: My first BP!!!
At the very least you should have some newspaper down for substrate--I don't know that the bare glass is good, but the heat should easily permiate newspaper. :)

    Beautiful boy, by the way.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...lke/hello1.gif and welcome. Congrats on your first snake. :gj:

There's no reason that the flexwatt or any heating pad shouldn't be able to heat a glass tank with no substrate. Are you measuring temps right above the heating pad? (preferably with a digital thermometer - you can find inexpensive digital thermometers at most big stores - indoor/outdoor thermometers)

    Re: My first BP!!!
m using an ACCURITE digital i got from walmart. its warming up now. i took the damp substrate out, dried it, put it back in, and it seems alot warmer.

the thermometer has an INSIDE AND OUTSIDE reading. outside of high 90's, inside of low 70's? which on should i be lookin at here?

either way, i need to make a change in there

Hi Tommy! Welcome to BP.net! :handshake

Nice lookin' snake you got there!

You need to watch both of those temps on your thermometer. Place the whole unit inside the cage on the cool end (I just prop mine up in a corner) and then place the probe on the warm side. Tucked under the warm-side hide is a good idea. You want the temps to be 90-94 on the warm side and 80-84 on the "cool" side.

If you find it difficult to heat sufficiently through the substrate without heating the glass to dangerous temperatures, just reduce the amount of substrate you're using. They only need a thin layer of it to absorb wastes.

    He Ate!!!
last night was his first feeding. according to his records, he hasnt been fed since jan 30th, (they told me to wait a lil over a week, due to the stress of a new home and everything). i put the pre killed rat pup (that i also got from the breeder at time of purchase) and he wouldnt eat at first (in a seperate tupperware). so after about an hour of him in tupperware, i took both the rat and the snake and put them in the cage. i know im not "suppose" to feed him in the same cage, but i handle this guy several times a day, so i dont think one feeding every 10 days is gonna cause him to think that my hand is a mouse everytime i reach on there...i hope haha

heres some pics. ps- he ate this guy about 8 hours after i put him in there...normal?

    whats wrong?
i fed the guy a few days ago (sat night) and started handling him today. he is moving really weird ( "robotic", meaning not smooth...) is this normal after a meal? he didnt act this way before i fed him. maybe he just needs to go to the bathroom?

Um...is your warm side really at 99.3 (as it shows in the pic of your accurite)?? If it is, you DEFinitely need to get that down into the 90-94 range. 99.3 is really too hot. That might be why he's spending so much time on the cold side.

not anymore. i added more newspaper to the bottom, and now its around 90...until i get a dimmer.

the cold side is around 80, and he still sits on his hide? when i pick him up, he feels straight up COLD

    Re: My first BP!!!
the key to getting a new bp is just not messing with them for at least a week some say 2. if you put him in a tub right now and left him alone in there for 2 weeks and only checked on him every 4 days to make sure he still has water. i think he will start to thrive much better than if you waited to move him. i just got a ton of young balls in and set them up in tubs and they are all doing great.
once again this is just what i would do. the choice is yours and yours alone. :sunny: :)
