What do snakes do for fun?
What do snakes enjoy? What do you think they'd like to do for fun?
Just curious what people do with their snakes, or let their snakes do out of their enclosure.

Also, do you think that snakes can tell people apart?

I don't believe you can really use the term "fun". Snakes don't have the emotions the way humans do. So, i guess for "fun", snakes just lay there :confuzd:

Being a wild animal that is extremely close to the bottom of the food chain, I would think that making it through a day without dying is about as "fun" as it gets for a ball python .... unless of course they make it out to the occasional roller coaster ride ... but if they did ride a roller coaster, what would they hold up in their air at the top of the first drop? :confuzd:

I'd say my snakes sleep for fun. Well, Hades has his fun every night trying to escape out of his tank. He does it all the time and after 3 succes a few years ago...hasn't succeeded since. Yet he still tries. I think Kozma has his fun by trying to conjure the biggest turd possible, than dragging his butt along the side of his tub to smear his poopies everywhere (yes he does that).

The better question is ... if your snake is having fun, how do you know ... can you tell by their smile? :confuzd:

I can tell when Abbath is having fun when he has a pile of vomit containing beer nuts, cheets and doritos. He also puts up his Judas Priest posters in his tub and cranks Priest at 3 a.m.

Interesting question. I don't believe that they are capable of something as complicated as "having fun." That would be applying human tendencies and behavior towards an animal.

As far as them being able to tell people apart, I believe that they can to a certain degree. I have no factual data or scientific evidence to back it up of course.

I agree 100% ... I have some snakes that will hiss and strike at me and only me ... and others that get shy around strangers ... they're not capable of processing "hey that's adam" or "hey, that's the person that owns me" ... but they can differentiate between smells and sounds/vibrations that they do and don't recognize.

I know what they definately recognize is dinner is being served. Some of my BP's wake from the dead when rats are going into other tubs. And you open theirs and they poping out striking! I learned to feed them first. Unless I wanna play chicken!

Certainly ... It's a very pavlovian response ... that's why I always suggest that people follow the same routine for feeding day ... do it on the same day every week, make the same sounds, set your rats in the same place within the room, etc .... before you know it, your snakes will be conditioned to know when feeding day is and what it sounds/smells like ... they'll be awake and ready with digestive juice flowing before you even get the first rat out of the container! :sweeet:

Well...I think being left alone would probably be Kisasa's number one thing to call "fun." :P Except on feeding day....don't skip her on that day! LOL

But when I have her out...she seems intent on exploring the crevices of the sofa, or the cluttered surface of my desk...anyplace she can get to to cause trouble. ;)

Seriously though...she really does seem content to just be left alone.

Nice use of the word Pavlovian! Don't here that every day but that's what it is, a trained response.

I really do believe this! When I started working at the shop with the BP's I was the "new alien" to all the snakes I guess you could say. I look, smell , and do things different then what Chris does. The snakes know who Chris is. They normally don't pull what they did with me towards him. When I started in... I got a lot of very interested big girls who came out and looked out there tub windows at me working. A few even followed me back and forth when I walked by. Cleaning day came and man oh man did I get struck at a lot and some even told me all about it by hissing. A few just wanted to investigate me which I didn't mind at all.

Now most just let me be and put up with me messing with them since I guess they now know I'm "ok" and not going to hurt them. Today 98% of them were just fine while I did a change out on their tubs... though the last rack out of the 05 normal females.... they just wanted to eat my face or hiss as loud as possible.. or both! Then again - they are moody little girls with me. I don't know how they are with Chris, since I've yet to really work around them all that much. So that may have something to do with it.

    -Blinks.- Wow...Just wow.

    Fun for the scale kids:

Ophelia: She likes helping me upload pictures onto photobucket and watching movies.

Hadrian: Likes trying to strike at my ass. O_O I swear to God, that evil boy goes after me every time I move near him, and it's only when I turn my backside at him.

Lucius: Playing in his vines. He must be part tree python or something. He's definitely got arboreal tendencies.

Odysseus: Eating. My little beastie is eatin' soooo much. -Squee.-

My snake's number one thing to do at night seems to be explore, and when I let her out on my bed or my desk she seems to have a pretty good time climbing around.

Do you guys let your snakes play on things? Does anyone have anything set up?

Maybe snakes can't have "fun" the way we can but I'm sure they enjoy getting out or climbing in vines.
I want to set up a more interesting environment for my snake. I want to know what kinds of things would work well. I just put a good branch in the tank so thats just a start.

Hey, I have an enclosure that has a metal mesh top, oddly my son got us some ladders that you get from the petstore for birds...in any event, we have more bird toys and im telling you i really think they like to climb up and around and down and check things out..

FUN question, how many of you take your snakes OUT, i was at the dog park the other day and there was a guy there with his snake, i was going to bring mine actually but my gal pal that was with me was Afaraid and said please dont. Im looking to see what people do in terms of taking their slithery friends out and what responces do they get. Id hate to wander around and piss everyone off@

    HAHAHAHAHA I love it!

What do our snake do for "fun". Well Malachi does enjoy the sports page (okay mostly pooping on it but I'm pretty sure he's got a bet placed on the Super Bowl). Now Brannagh and Orlah and Saoirse and Kyna being our mature females...they pretty much like to get together over a nice crock of fresh water and a few rats and talk about Malachi, the price of rats and aren't those two new males, Riordan and Buddy, sorta cute. The younger female snakes well they just pretty much oogle the males, snarf down rats and mice and read a lot of Teen Snake Digest. :P

I sometimes take Hayden to the pet store during the summer. Or sometimes to my mom's store. He's a lot more appreciative of his nice big tank and water bowl when we get back.

The pet store employees are all really used to us, but sometimes the customers get a little edgy. Little kids are really cool about him.
