Earrings?
How many people guage? I am 47 yo and I saw some awesome pincers on a young male at the Game Stop near me. My 16 yo son was always talking about getting piercings all over his face etc. I have had a regular stud earring for about 25 years but never thought about the "tribal s**t" (as my wife calls it). And then at the Petco when I was buying my frozen mice, bam another set of really hot red pincers on a young woman.
So over the past few weeks, I have gauged up to a 10 so that I could wear the Hot-Topic red pincers -- they are so cool. I just got the one in my left ear.
Any one else out there have different earrings?

Re: Earrings?
Some of the Labrets are very colorful (Body Candy). I have often thought of putting one in my ear -- but most of them are 14g so they won't fit in a normal piercing.
With my 10g will a 14g fit or will it fall out?
Also can you gauge down?

I tried to get my ears to go as close to normal as possible for my wedding! It got pretty close, a normal stud would have never fit, but earrings with a large front and back did!:)

Re: Earrings?
My honey has his ears stretched to about the size of a no.2 pencil thickness. Not sure what that gauge is, but they're cute. :) He is the one with all the fun piercings (had his tongue and middle-nose but took them out.)I just have normal earring holes.

Re: Earrings?
My ears have been everthing from saftey pin to a 0g and back down to a happy 12g now :) lol (job searching)
I also have some "other" pericings, nothin tooo horrible but i think you can guess.
-
Re: Earrings?
My ears are at either 18, 16, or 14... I really can't remember which. I just needed to gauge them a bit larger than "normal" to use the jewelry I wanted.
I have 11 piercings, all G-rated. :P
-
Re: Earrings?
Never went into the stretching, I'm at 12 gauge with my tongue. Had additional ones that are now missing...one due to a bad cat incident in the middle of the night...all I can say is OOUUUCH! Oh and I have 7 in my ears, my cartilage one is a badge of honor...that thing hurt worse than all my others!

Re: Earrings?
Aleesha, have you ever had any regrets about your nose piercing?
My daughter has been begging for 2 years to get hers done, and I'm thinking about letting her for her 16th bday. I'm open to any input on this subject!

Re: Earrings?
16 is a great age to let one's child make a decision like this. I think that if they don't like their decision they are old enough to own up to it being a mistake.
Take a look at http://www.bodycandy.com for some great items. They are a quality company.
Also http://www.hottopic.com has a body peircing section that has a really good FAQ. Have her look at this before getting her nose pierced -- it'll let her know what she is getting into.
best wishes.

Re: Earrings?
I actually chose when I was 16 to get my ear pierced. Luckily both my parents stood by it, and basically said if you have it a few weeks/months and don't like it pull the ring and it will heal. I still have it, and don't regret it one bit. At one point I wore 10 gauge plugs, but let it go back to a 16/18 gauge. I'm actually thinking about getting my other ear done and gauging to 4 or 6.
Just remember go slow! I have a buddy who jumped sizes too fast, didn't take care of his skin and his lobes busted.

Re: Earrings?
Sarah, my oldest daughter wanted her nose pierced and rather than have her go behind my back I took her to a really nice place and paid to have it done. It was a lovely small thing and she liked it (I got "cool mom" points too :) ). The nice thing was when later she was bored of it, it closed up and you'd never know it was ever there. The only guideline I've ever given my teens is that whatever they do piercing or tattoo wise should be discrete as there are a number of professions/employers that really frown on that sort of thing.

Extreemly good advice! I tell this to my son all the time, and he has been responsible with his body.

I got my navel piercing when I was 16 with my mom in the room. It was a good experience for both of us, I think. She got to see me all proud of myself for making (at the time) a pretty big decision, and I had the confidence that my mom would allow me to negotiate with her on things, and that I could do something that was pretty scary to me when I got it.
It fell out about a year later and closed while I was asleep :( But that's okay, in my current job I don't want any kind of navel piercing around, since kid's heads are about belly height!

I think you mom deserves some major "cool points" for that! :) (though as a mom I can bet somewhere inside her mom heart she was screaming "hey that's MY baby, don't you stick needles in MY baby" LOL...I know I was but then I'm the kind of mom that even though they need them...I hated to take them for their innoculations too...I'm a big softie!)
-
Re: Earrings?
I don't have enough room in my posts to explain why my mom gets LOTS of cool points... but one of her major "events" she'd been waiting to experience with me since I was a little baby?
Watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show together for the first time. That's right, my mom claimed my RHPS virgin point from the day I was born. (she managed to wait til I was 17 :P)
-
Re: Earrings?
Thanks for all the excellent advice! It sounds a lot less traumatic than I have been figuring, hearing all these good experiences. I'm all about tats, but piercings have always freaked me out a bit, so I wasn't sure where to go with this. I'll go ahead and let her have it done this year.
Mousch, I'm also waiting breathlessly to take my daughter to RHPS! She has the dvd, and dressed as Columbia for Halloween last year. The live action troupe in Dallas shut down a few years back, and the closest one to us now is in Ft. Worth. Their website says 18+ only, though :(
I should email them and see if they'll let me bring Courtney when she turns 16.

Most places will with parent concent. You have to sign wavers and all that junk but most will.
-
Re: Earrings?
Well, I decided to email them to ask, and when I loaded up the site I noticed they changed it. It now says "You have to be 17 or over to get in without a parent or guardian."
So I'm guessing that means I can take her!
-
Re: Earrings?
I was 17 at my first RHPS -- at a Georgia Tech theater. I think that 16 is a good age for all sorts of "comming out" things. It is a mysterious time where we start to "really" learn who we are. Therefore it is also a really good time for parental bonding. If done right, you will keep your children's love forever!!!!
I have taken a valuable lesson from my own life "not to do what my parents did". The week after I graduated high school, I misbehaved and was thrown out of my home. I joined the Army and got myself together, but I also divorced myself from my parents. I am not going to give my children the opportunity to mess-up by themselves. I'll be there to help pick up the pieces, and by being around hopefully the mistakes won't be tragic.
Just like earrings, the little things mean so much at this age....
