My Weekend Rescue...
Over the weekend I rescued this beautiful 2500+ gram male... :)
I gladly paid for him and his tank and if you saw the conditions he was in you would understand the reason I say "rescued". When I responded to the guys Ad he told me it was a female so I thought "hey great price for a adult female, I'll check it out". When I arrived to see the animal I saw the owner had him in a freakin storage unit! with only 1 heatrock for a heat source! the heatrock was a very very small zoomed that was only slightly warm to the touch... He had a half log for a hide and 2 single pieces of paper towel for substrate. I'm suprised this animal is even alive! The last few days before I picked him up it had been in the high 30's and low 40's! After seeing that he had been in these conditions I didn't care about it's sex. I just knew I had to take care of it.
Since he's been in my posession I have throroughly cleaned his Tank inside and out, Gave him a fresh bed of aspen throughout the tank, scrubbed his water bowl clean and gave him a couple more appropriate hideboxes. I threw out the heatrock and gave him a nice UTH and his Temps and Humidity are now dead on. I also popped him to see hemipenes and sperm plugs.
I've got him in another room away from my animals for now as he is in quarantine. I have a person interested in him but I want to keep an eye on him to make sure he is Ok. No signs of a RI so far but like I said I'm keepin an eye on him.
Here he is on the trunk of my Taurus to show somewhat of a size comparison.

LOL Yeah that might work. :)
I just want to keep him for a little while and ensure that he's healthy before I sell him to anybody. My friend wants him but I just want to make sure I don't sell him a problem...;)
Going to feed him in a week and see how he eats. From the look of him though he seems to be a good eater. BUt of course I gotta make sure.

Wow congrats and kudos to your for rescuing him. Chimera was rescued by Jen before I took him. Rescue snakes remind me of pound dogs because they always seem to have a unique personality. He's a big gorgeous boy and I hope things go well!

Thanks! yeah, I just had to take him home. I felt so bad for the poor thing. He seems alot happier and less stressed in his new enviorment. He is a big boy! I was suprised it was a male, but he's beautiful none the less! I'm hoping things go well too!

Thank you! But I just wouldn't be able to live with myself if I left with that snake still in that guys ownership. I only did what anybody else would have done in a situation like that.
BTW, The owner who had him owned him for 12 years since he was a baby.

Will do! I'm thinking that he will probably eat without hesitation after I wait a good week. But I have to keep in mind the conditions he was living in before I took him so... I will be patient. He's definetly alot less stressed though I can assure you that! Just have to let him acclimate. ;)

Re: My Weekend Rescue...
Sounds like one healthy durable snake! I like the white creeping up on his belly. He's a big boy! I'll bet he's never mated and if gets a sniff and a hold of one of your females they'll be a whole lotta shakin goin on! :carrot:
Maybe you should name him after one of the Survivor winners.
I wish you both the best. :salute:

THanks guys! Here's another picture of him around my neck to show his size again... I still can't get over how big he is for a male myself.

Re: My Weekend Rescue...
He's a good looking snake :D ... I've got about a dozen male morphs sitting in my racks that are either that size or getting there ... and then lots of little runts that are breeding their cloacas off!! :P

Re: My Weekend Rescue...
Oh heck I need new pics of our big male, Malachi, whose only a year and a half old. He's a big, BIG boy too LOL. Eats like a storm trooper and always has. Some of these males get some size on them too.
Glad to hear this poor fellow is in better hands and you are carefully picking his forever home. Sounds like he sure deserves a better life than the one he's had.

Jo,
Malachi's daddy is HUGE ... one of the biggest albinos I've ever seen ... and his mom was no slouch size wise either, but that seems to be the case with all of my girls ... I like big girls. :D

Re: My Weekend Rescue...
I figured he must be carrying the genes for big LOL. He's a super eater as he was with you as a baby and he just seems built to turn every last ounce of prey into growing ability. Haven't weighed him lately as he's doing his first breedings this year but last one was 1,200 grams and that was awhile back. Not fat either, just big, long and solid as a brick wall...that's Malachi! When Vince met him the first time he could not get over him...kept saying "this is a male????" LOL (and Mal is all boy!) It will be very cool if he passes this on to his offspring. :)
