Rack System Heating ?'s
I've been doing some research on setting up a rack system from animal plastics, and I had a few questions.
1) If I get the belly heat built in, will it all hook up with on plug-in, or will it be 7 separate? The reason I ask is because I am thinking about getting the Herpstat PRO, but will that be enough to monitor the rack system, and 3 other separate cages?
2) Will I have to maintain the same temps in each level of the rack, or how would I go about maintaining different temps in each tub so I could keep a variety of species? Or would I just need to get a new rack for that?
Thanks for all the help in advance...

Have you already ordered it? If not, call AP and ask them to do it seperately. Even if you have already, it may not be too late to call them. I would imagine it is all hooked up on one plug, but I have no experience in buying racks or enclosures. If you want to play doctor on the rack a little bit, take a look at the wiring and maybe you can do your own wiring?

Re: Rack System Heating ?'s
In order to get the each level to be the same temp plug them all into the asme thermostat. I have my hatchling rack set up this way so that I can run 2 shelves or 6. It takes some work but can be done.

Re: Rack System Heating ?'s
No I have not already ordered...and actually I would almost rather just have say 3 of the tubs running at one temp and the other 4 at another.
Does anyone have any experience with the Herpstat PRO? I'd like to get more info on that, will it work well with a rack system plus 2 other cages?

the herpstat pro has four probes and four outlets so yes it can run up to 4 and keep all of them at different temps if you want it to. really cool even has email and pager ability.

Re: Rack System Heating ?'s
Wow awesome! Ya, I spent all morning deciding on everything I was going to purchase to create one pretty cool setup...
It contains that rack i've been talking about. 3 cages + 1 quarantine tub set aside. The Herpstat PRO, an infrared temp gun, a digi scale, and of course a mouse tank.
Total cost will probably be about 2 grand not including animals though :) Gotta love it...

Re: Rack System Heating ?'s
When you say the quarantine tub is set aside. How far away is it? On the other side of a room is not sufficient quarantine space. Just curious, but what else do you plan on getting(snakes)?

Re: Rack System Heating ?'s
I have a Herpstat ND..i really want to upgrade to Pro. I have a lot of confidence in Spyder Robotics. I honestly think you will not be disappointed with the Pro. Let me know how you like it when you get it

Re: Rack System Heating ?'s
I'll definately let you know...
Good point on the quarantine space. How about in the same room but in a walk-in closet? Would that be good enough, or should it be in a completely separate room?
The very next snake I plan on getting is a jungle carpet, but i'd also like to get some bp morphs...right now i'm really just concerned about getting all the proper equipment working and then i'll really start my researching as far as my next few snake purchases go.
If anyones got ANY suggestions on setting up a room like this, i'd love to hear em. Pictures would be wonderful too!

Re: Rack System Heating ?'s
I have the 2 herpstat pro's and I will never use anything else they are exceptional. I control a variety of racks, bearded dragons enclosures, ambient temps in two different rooms and will do incubators when needed.
I also have a animal plastics rack that holds 10 - 32 quart tubs that house my juvenile BP's. It is heated with a single heat cable that uses one plug to heat all. Mine is the indirect heat which works fine (I would have prefered underbelly but I got a great deal used) and it is real accurate in all levels I'm happy with it. The only downfall is all my other racks are on wheels which makes it real easy to move when needed and the A Plastic is not easliy moved. I live in dry southeren cali and the animal plastics hold humidity excellent. I also have Freedom breeder and Vision racks which are great but more expensive. The Vision is interesting because it can be set up several ways which makes it versatile. You can set up long tubs to pull out the front or small hatchling tubs to pull out the side or both at the same time. Look around and think whats best for you. You are looking at great equipment and will have happy snakes with the equipment you are looking at! :sunny:

Here is a pic of the Freedom Breeder next to the Animal plastics. The freedom has their CB70-8 tubs which are taller than CB70 tubs and are solid white with windows. The A plastics has 32 quart Sterlite tubs.

This is the Vision Rack, you can see I combined The Larger CB70-8 tubs and regular CB70 tubs. I like to give my big girls room to do the wild thing. Right now it's my cool down breeding rack.

Also you can see the herpstat pro and the 400 watt oil filled heater that controls rack and room temps.

Here's the website
http://www.air-n-water.com/product/AH-400.html
The 400 watt is great becuase it doesn't trip breakers and is cheaper on the energy bills!.
The enclosures are made by my buddy Eric at Critter Condo's. We are desigining an enclosure for outside that is made of a rounded netting that animals can't scratch up their faces on. I keep my dragons outside when the weather permits and they love it. You can't beat real sunshine for health and color! :salute:
