what have i been doing today? (loving kara that's what!)
wanna know why we love kara? wanna know why she is our favorite person in the whole wide world? wanna know why my hubby is unpacking his bags and has decided to not leave me and the kids for kara?
this is why!
i just baked a pie. actually i baked two pies. these are the first pies i've ever baked in my life!!! i cheated and used frozen pie shells but next time i'm going to make my shells from scratch... but with this being my first ever pies... i was a little nervous so i didn't want to over extend myself.
so... without further delay... here they are!

now kara... if they taste 1/2 as good as the bowl did when i licked it... ooooh laaaa laaaa we'll be in heaven tonight at our fondue.
thanks again kara... for sharing your secrets with me. :whisper: i sooooooo appreciate it (as does my drooling hubby who's been trying to sniff the pecans off the cooling pies!)
Re: what have i been doing today? (loving kara that's what!)

They look SOOOOO YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful pies - excellent job! If they taste as good as they look (and I'm sure they do!), then give yourself ANOTHER A+!! :sweeet:  :hungry:
K~
Re: what have i been doing today? (loving kara that's what!)
hearing that from you is huuuuuge kara.
i had to turn them down to 300 for the last 1/2 hour cause they were starting to burn. so i hope they are solid on the inside LOL
i guess we'll be eating them with a spoon if they are liquid...

They look fabulous, Aleesha!
Here's a little tip that I've used when baking pies (which I don't do all that often)....when they get to the point where the crust is juusssst starting to look as dark as you'd like it to...take the pie out of the oven for a minute and very carefully fold aluminum strips around the edge...then place it back in the oven at the same temp its been baking at for the remainder of its baking time.
This is a tricky maneuver...folding little strips of foil over the edges of a hot pie...but once you get the hang of it, it works like a charm...allowing a perfectly baked pie without burnt crusts!
But seriously....those pies don't look in any need of MY help!! :sunny: Except for this: :chew: :P
Re: what have i been doing today? (loving kara that's what!)
thanks judy!!!
i just 'touched' them... (no i did not cut into them yet) and they feel like they are firming up nicely.
so... i hope when we cut into them they don't turn to mush. maybe i should bring some icrecream with me in case they do... that was we can pretend it was "sundae sauce in a pie shell"
Re: what have i been doing today? (loving kara that's what!)
oh look at the time... i gotta get them over to my friend's for the fondue....
:bolt:

Ice cream is ALWAYS a good idea with hot pie! LOL I had a black/raspberry pie turn into a berry cobbler once. It's all still good! :P
Re: what have i been doing today? (loving kara that's what!)
we ended up having some vanilla with the pie and OMGoddess was it ever good pie! kara you are amazing... that recipe totally rocks!
everyone loved it and i am so darned proud of myself... *singing* i baked a pie and it didn't suck.....
Re: what have i been doing today? (loving kara that's what!)
Glad they turned out so well! They certainly look like prize winning pies! I've never mastered a decent pie crust so I always have to buy a really good quality frozen one. I can do the filling so fine but it's embarrassing when folks need a steak knife to get through the shell or just leave it there, all naked and emptied of the insides LOL. I'll have to bug Kara for tips on yummy pie shells that don't crack your molars. :)
