    Why?! Why?!
Is it necessary to torture the poor bridesmaids. Please all you brides to be, be kind to your friends. I just received my dress for my friend's wedding in April. It didn't look bad at first, but I'm extremely glad that this is the final wedding I should have to be in. http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ulke/phew1.gif

I get to fly up to MD and then drive to NC with one of my friends from high school. The only positive is that I will be totally kid free that weekend. Unfortunately I have to spend time in the that icky dress. (it's also the first weekend that my husband will be completely alone with the kids for more than a couple hours - although they should be camping with the cub scouts so he'll have backup ;) I'd rather go camping myself  )

The first two bridesmaids dresses I had to wear I did NOT like at all. There was one that I did like, and this one is okay. I was even feeling better about getting in shape.... until I put that thing on. I just had to vent my frustration.

It's so much more fun to sit back and enjoy a wedding, than have to be in it.

i don't really understand the whole "wedding" and inviting everyone to it personally. it's a show of love and a contract between two people and i just don't get the whole 'invite a 100 or more people... spend an obscene amount of $$ and sit back and accept a bunch of gifts'.

i think 'back in the day' weddings were great... a celebration which everyone pitched in a cooked for, sewed for... the whole nine yards. but now... everything is catered and soooooo freakin expensive.

I think it is great that they want to share their day of happiness, but yes, catering makes you drop some $$$. My boss and I were talking about this the other day. You spend xxx amount of money and a lot of people invite more people so they can get the gifts and money to help them start off. How much would you have to spend to get all that same stuff if you did not have the huge wedding?

I'm sorry to hear that you don't like the dress and that it doesn't look good on you. Unfortunately, unless all the bridesmaid's are scrawny cat-walk like models, no one dress is going to look good on everyone.

My one and only time as a bridesmaid, I was the maid of honor for my best friend from high school. Her favorite color is green - and I mean GREEN. I'm tall and full figured (no scrawny model here, boys), so I looked like the jolly green giant. To make matters worse, the bride, the groom, well the whole damn bridal party including the minister, were shorter than I was - I looked gargantuan. But I took comfort in the fact that I had cleavage (bow chicka chicka bow bow) and no one else in the bridal party did (well, maybe the minister).

The great postscript to that story is that I was able to rip the dress to shreds and use for a "Seymour the plant" puppet I helped make for a community theatre production of 'Little Shop of Horrors' - it was the best that dress ever looked, hehe...=)

    ***
Wear the dress, eat the food, drink the cocktails and don't worry about spilling anything on it. Afterwards, use it to line a cat box or something...the thought of that will help you through wearing it. :D

    ***
Oh and since I was just the evil bridezilla, to redeem myself, I told my one bridesmaid (my aunt who was my matron of honor) to pick out her own dress, just told her the general color. She looked HAWT! =D

I don't think everyone needs that large wedding, but when you come from a large family it gets big quick. I am very close with my family, so it was important for me that they be there. Although it was very expensive. My brother in law thought it would be funny, so instead of walking under swords after leaving the church we walked under old (and broken) hockey sticks. My 10 year anniversary is coming up soon, and I'd love to celebrate it by renewing our vows on a beach in Hawaii in a very private ceremony.

I myself am not lacking for curves, and am also cursed with the ability to more than adequately fill out the top of my dresses. So I definitely feel your pain, and I even agree you had it WAYY worse.

I still have all of my bridesmaids dresses, and never had a clue what to do with them....thank you sooo much for giving me some lovely ideas.

Ruffles and bows! :O That would be horrible. This should be a relatively simple wedding, and I believe I'll follow Cass' lovely advice of having a drink or two to help make it through the day. Although I do think it could make some lovely doll dresses (if I had an actual sewing ability  )

I actually have a sewing machine and can sew in a straight line. I've even managed not to mangle two blankets that fold into pillows for my kids. I just have no idea how to cut all that fabric so that it will resemble some type of clothing.

What's all the fuss about?? I think the dress looks hot, so does the model in it. I've never been a bridesmaid. I wear suits to weddings and prefer to dance with the bridesmaids. Don't sweat the wedding. At least it's a simple cut dress, not something buried in lace, ruffles and ribbons. Have a beer or three and you will feel great!!:D

I admit the dress looks lovely on the model, it's just not nearly as flattering on me. I'm just excited I don't have to have the thing completely altered to fit.

lol; I plan on letting my two bridesmaids wear black, and I am letting them pick out their dresses (they will run them by me for approval.) My friend did this in her wedding that I was in, and I got a dress that I could actually wear out on the town; not a hot-pink taffeta.. who on EARTH would look good in that?!

Hot pink taffeta would definitely rock! With a huge bow on the butt.... that's just heaven.

I'm in the south, so a lovely fan with lots of feathers will do the trick.

I have rather thick hair, and I could definitely make it poofy. (and yes I was an 80s child who did NOT do the poofy hair thing :O ) Although it may kill me to actually do it.

i know someone who let her bridesmaids pick their own dresses... only stipulation was colour. she chose the colour each one would wear (or they assisted with the picking) so each bridesmaid wore a different colour and a different dress...

it looked very nice actually. the dresses turned out to be similar in style and everyone looked sooooooo good in their dress. ;)

of course, all the weddings i've been in have involved hideous dresses which were never ever ever worn again!

my SIL picked this horrid material that showed sweat sooooooo bad and the wedding was in the middle of a hot summer. we all looked like crap in the dresses... the persperation stained the dresses... so we even had some "sweaty bum stains" ... let's just say we took our little half top jackets and tied them around our waste by the end of the event. *eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww*
