How's breeding going?
Hey! How's breeding going for everyone? How many locks has everyone gotton and from what? Any ovulations? My Het and Poss Het Albino are locked right now (their 4th lock this season). A month ago I heard that my larger normal female (on breeding loan) had locked at least twice with the Pin male and that the Pin male would be put in with my other female the next week. I'm talking to the guy I'm doing the breeding loan with again this Sat. at a reptile show, so we'll see how everything is going.
Anyway, how many locks have you had so far? Also, who here is breeding BPs for the first time this season (like me)?

Re: How's breeding going?
Cool.. :) I have two normals locking up, and also my Graz Pastel is locked up as I type with my big female, Ginger. I wanted Spiders this year but I am still feeling my little guy out and I don't want to stress him if he is not ready; I can always put my pastel in with the third female in a month or two.
-
Re: How's breeding going?
Cool! Yeah, I was hoping on getting a female Spider that could breed next year, but I decided that I could save money and stress by just getting a hatchling later this year and just take it slow.

Re: How's breeding going?
Hey Eric,
I am pretty close to you (Parker).
This is our first year breeding also. So far we have a Het Pied Male locking regularly with a normal female, and a pair of normals that are doing the same. My Pastle male has been frustrating me, we have only seen him locked once. Last week we started pairing our small Albino male with a normal girl just to see how he would do.

Cool! Good luck with those breeding projects! Is this your first year breeding?

Re: How's breeding going?
Yes, this is our first year breeding BP's. Nothing too ambitious yet, I will be happy if we get a clutch or two ...

So far so good here. More or less all of my plans are on track. I hope to have a few neat clutches :D

Re: How's breeding going?
Breeding is going good I guess. This is also my first year so I have nothing to compare to but I must say it hasn't been action packed. I'm thinking thats pretty normal and you don't have multi copulation day in and day out. I'm extremely excited I'll tell you that and I'm hoping to hatch out some babies. Any babies I just want em the more the merrier.=Larry

Re: How's breeding going?
Sweet! Good luck everyone and post pics when eggs start hatching!!

Re: How's breeding going?
Sweet! My Poss Het Albino is over 1600g and I just heard that my larger female that was on a breeding loan with a Pin male is gravid!! The Pin itself is now on a breeding loan so I might have to choose what to breed the other female to since she was only in with the Pin once (and he didn't see anything between them). I'm excited!!
-
Re: How's breeding going?
Sweet! Het Albinos are locked again! The other female is being bred to a sweet looking Cinny male!
-
Re: How's breeding going?
I brought the gravid female home today. Boy, it's great to have her back! I had a couple extra rats left and she ate them quicker than my best eaters would have! And to think she used to be the pickiest eater of all! Lol!

You've got a gravid female that's eating multiple rats at a sitting?

Re: How's breeding going?
I should be getting 2 clutches of Pastel x normal, and one normal clutch.. all three of my breeder girls are still eating like there's no tomorrow when I offer food. I am not offering huge rats, just the medium ones they were used to.. I have been rotating to give everyone some rest before and after eating and between breedings. All three of the girls are over 1800g.
My little Pastel stud is around 700g.. he gets the job done, and I give him rests between breeding and eating also. No handling for any of the breeders unless it's cage-cleaning time..
I wanted to get Spiders this year, but honestly my little spider male needs to bulk up and grow more, I feel. I am not jumping the gun and sticking him in with girls yet.. believe me, this takes a huge amount of patience on my part! But I feel it's best for him. Especially since I have only had him for little more than a month, and I feel that he needs more settling-in time. But he is eating like a little champ!

Yep! They were both smaller than what I used to feed her though... She's one of those females that usually won't eat one larger one...only a 2-3 little rats.
That sounds great Ginevive! Good luck!

How many eggs does she have in her?

Please dont take this as being rude here.I would like to know how the breeder of the pin used on your female let you take a gravid female home.In my experiances and such the female stays with the breeder until she drops eggs and they hatch. It also concerns me that you have now handled and placed stress on a gravid female.Something does not sound right here, did he guarentee her being gravid? Is this his first year breeding also?

Not true at all ... I've been palpating females and recording the number of follicles and eggs in each of my girls with great accuracy for years now ... I think if you don't have a lot of experience palpating and don't have "the touch" an ultrasound can be a useful tool ... but for those of us that have been around since the "pre ultrasound" days, they really aren't necessary (at least in my opinion).

Let me explain myself here. She bred to the Pinstripe male and is producing follicles and may have ovulated (but we didn't actually see her ovulate if she did). So she's not like "gravid" in the sense that she's going to be laying eggs ina a couple weeks or anything...only that she should lay in the next 1.5-2 months or so. They way we're doing the breeding loan is that he breeds them with his male and then once they have ovulated, I take them home and wait for eggs. Since the Pinstripe got sent away for another breeding loan, I decided to just take her home now. He did not guarrentee that she was gravid. He just said that she should be. This is his 2nd-3rd year breeding BPs.
Let me know if that sounds ok or if there's something I should do. Thanks guys! Since this is my first year breeding, I'm still learning some things.

A simple palpation would easily allow you to tell if she had indeed ovulated ... at that point, you'll feel small "marshmellows" lined up along the center of her belly which are indeed eggs ... moving a female with large follicles that has not yet ovulated is really not the best idea in the world ... it's not uncommon for females with large follicles and no male present or that are stressed to reabsorb their follicles leading to no eggs.
Good luck ... all that moving snakes around is something that would surely make me nervous for a number of reasons ... I've got my fingers crossed for you!

Re: How's breeding going?
Well, I just checked on her and it looks like she's ovulating to me! That whole long section in front of her vent is HUGE!! Much larger than the rest of her body! Lookin' good!

Re: How's breeding going?
Well, I've only seen one confirmed lock (I think I keep catching them in the "afterglow" phase). I should be getting one clutch of pastel x normal. I haven't seen ovulation yet. My breeder female is eating like there's no tomorrow though. We'll see how it goes.

My first year as well...I'm hoping for the best for ya! I've been pairing my
Pastel x lg. normal girl since Jan. and I believe she's actually ovulating as well...rear swelling, getting ready to shed... Anyways, I'm hoping I can get a decent clutch with a female pastel or two in the mix so I can start a super pastel project later on down the road. My male pastel is currently 480grams and my Female is over 2500 grams maxing out my digi scale. :)
Best of luck with everyones breedings this season! I Can't wait to see all the egg pictures in the near future!

Re: How's breeding going?
Sweetness! My Poss. Het Albino female is Ovulating! Yes!
You guys were totally right though! Both of them were great feeders but today they barely even took 1 rat (it took a while before they went for them). Sorry about that...
I'm just can't wait to get eggs!

Re: How's breeding going?
I've been having some good locks. Even my cinny male has locked up with his cinny girlfriend, and the pastel boy has locked with a couple. Randy the het pied has locked with all three of his personal girlfriends. 1 100% het pied, 2 pHet pieds. And Sam the spider will breed anything you put him in with, eat a rat, and go after whoever is lined up next.
Now... if only the girls will do their part and start getting preggers...
Wolfy(terribly excited for everyone's successes!!)

Sweet! It sound like you've got some good projects going! Good luck with those Cinnys and proving out those PH Pied gals!
My Normal female is opaque and should be shedding soon. I'm hoping it's a pre-lay shed, but that sounds a little too soon...I've read it's usually 16 days after ovulation? We shall see...

Re: How's breeding going?
I talked to the guy I'm doing the breeding loan with and my other Normal girl is locked with his Spider male right now. She'll be put in with a Cinny next time, so we'll see what hatches out!
