Hello, I'm new. Here's my BP
    Hello,

I say "my" BP, but he's really my husband's and I get to borrow him sometimes. :P

    Here's the pic:

    http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...2/DSCN4352.jpg

If he looks a little stressed, it's because he is brand new and we were transferring him from his transit container to his new home and couldn't resist getting a couple quick pics. He explored his new surroundings for a while and possibly into the night (we were sleeping), but has since settled into one of the hides and has been there all day. I hope he'll settle in nicely--the breeder fed him a week ago, and I'm wondering whether we should try to feed him tonight or whether we should wait a week? Is there anything to lose (other than the cost of a thawed mouse) by trying?

    About us:
We've both always loved snakes, and dh finally decided he was ready for one this past weekend. We found a great breeder (actually, a couple who have hosted shows on Animal Planet--how cool is that?) and obtained the 1 1/2 year-old male ball from him last night.

I've learned a great deal from browsing this and other forums and sites, and am very excited about our new pet. We also have pet mice (I know, strange, eh? The mice are mine, and they're actually quite nice pets as many who have bred feeders probably already know--mine will *not* be food nor bred for food, lol), a cat, a fish, and two children who also love snakes.

Anyway, I don't have any questions yet, but I'm sure I will. Just wanted to say hello, thanks for letting me join (dh may join later too, lol), and this is a great group!

Hi Heather, Welcome to the forum! :welcome:

Great looking snake and congrats on jumping in to this excellent hobby. These snakes are the coolest things since sliced bread. :D

Anyway, I'd recommend that you wait a week before trying to feed the little guy. He might eat for you, but it's always a good idea to let him settle in first. A couple weeks without food is nothing to a Ball, so don't worry about him being hungry.

Dear husband. He's the rightful owner of the snake introduced in this thread. I'm just the lady he shares a house with and graciously allows to crash his forums and introduce his snake. :)

    Hello, and welcome!

Gorgeous snake! I am absolutely suckered into ball pythons. At first, I truly did not want anything to do with them (what was i thinking?!!). I had my cornsnake, and wanted more corns. They were going to be my primary snake, and maybe a few "odds & ends. How stupid I was to ever think that. I had an extra 20 gallon tank, and my plan was to get another cornsnake, as the pet store (the ONLY one in my area i trust, because i know the breeders the snakes come from, and i've known the owners of the store for years) had an adult I really wanted. I went there and, never before had I ever glanced at the ball pythons, but I noticed this one being active. I ignored him for awhile as I looked over the corn, almost ready to make my decision, when I suddenly felt a need to hold that particular ball right away.

As soon as the snake handler put him in my hands, I knew. That little boy was the sweetest, and most non-jumpy snake I'd ever had the honor to hold. Needless to say, he went home with me, and I had no regrets leaving the corn behind. Don't get me wrong, corns are still my passion, but that ball changed my whole outlook on his species.

Glad to see the ball has won you two over, as well! :D
