Besides Snakes...what's your favorite Herp?

It would be safe to assume that for the majority of those who participate here, snakes would be at or near the top of a list of favored herps. SO....besides snakes...do you have a favorite? Something you would really like to collect besides snakes? (Or already collect!)

Personally, I'm becoming more and more fascinated with turtles in general and torts specifically. But it will be years before I attempt to keep either. That's one family of herps I don't want to attempt multiple cross-country moves with. LOL

I love salamanders but I don't personally have any yet.

I'd love to have a huge take with a mud puppy at some point when I can afford it.

I like tarantulas, monitors, geckos and other lizards. :)

Re: other herps.... I like them all, for very different reasons... I really tried to think of the next in the fav. line, I just can't pick.

I also breed bearded dragons. Here is one of the babies I held back this year. I also have/love tortoises but I could only vote for one.

i hit can't pick a favorite... cause critter wise... our tarantulas and birds are our next favorite critters.

You forgot to list... Tuataras! You can't go wrong with a 3rd eye. :alien: Well, except for those awkward teen years. :P

I want a couple geckos when I get my reptile room going.

Besides snakes, I love Spotted Turtles!!

I've kept turtles since I was a kid, I think I will always have at least one in my collection!!
Spotteds are great and stay small...

Mine would have to be 3 species of Monitor lizard. The Crocodile Monitor, Nile Monitor, and Water Monitor. I already keep/collect Nile Monitors lol.

I voted for small/medium lizards but I really love crocs/gators as well.
Saw a couple of dwarf nile crocs at a zoo once and how I wish I could have one. I`m pretty sure they were adults but they were even smaller than dwarf caimans!

rhacodactylus geckos, esp. cresteds. :D

Love them all, but have chosen to not keep some due to space limitations or dealing with more difficult husbandry needs. When I was younger I had time to nit pick over the tiniest details. So I would be lying if I said a certain herp was my next favorite.:sunny:

My next love is our egyptian Uromastyx "Spike".

I have a lifelong love of tortoises, but have never kept one due to space limitations :(

I would have to say gecko's they are really awesome, so many different species :eek:

Small Monitor lizards and other lizards....can't beat the storri ;)

I will be breeding her, a sister and their mother to a new gorgeous chris allen/ blood male that I picked up. She was produced from sandfire x sandfire breeding and the babies came out with more color than the parents. I'm selling the sire because I don't want to breed him back to his daughters. We should have some beauties availible next summer. Thanks for the compliments!

There should be a category for beardies. They are probably the friendliest reptile you can have. One of the only reptiles that like to be handled and taken out!

I don't have any yet, but I would love to get some tortoises. I have been looking at Stars and I would really like to get some Aldabras.

Rhino Iguanas! I must have one for a pet only very soon or I will go nuts! I think they rock.

I voted crocs and alligators... Although I'm about 99.999% sure I'll never own one they've always fascinated me. Living in Florida I get to see alot of them in the wild. There is something about watching the way they cruise through top of the water so gracefully. You can't help but have alot of respect for an animal who has made it thru thousands of years... and still to this day thrives in magnificent numbers!

I picked couldn't decide, cause as cute as frogs are it's a toss up between all kinds of lizards and crocodilians. I've got a Sobek piece underway (the Egyptian Croc headed God) and man, crocs are fun to draw!

And lizards are fun to cuddle, we fell for a whole lot of them at the last expo. From the beardies to the big ol moniters, Karen and I loved em! We even got a nice little iguana statue for our bathroom to help us resist figuring out how to fit a lizard tank of some kind in here. ;) But snakes are always #1 for me.

Gecko's, Gecko's, Gecko's... I love Geckos. I have a crestie and two leos at the moment. I can't get enough of them. As soon as I have room I will have a houseful of geckos lol. Especially Cresties.

Frogs! I was originally a frogger before ever keeping a snake (though I kept both creatures in my teens.) I used to have elaborate setups of green and leopard frogs, and even a bull frog. I still have a horned frog and 5 clawed frogs; they are a traditional symbol of good luck. I keep a few stuffed and magnetic frogs at my desk at work for good luck!

Thier are other herps?:eek: :P I would love to have a gator but they are illegal in Illinois.Unless you have a Federal Permit but i dont have the room :( :P

I love my cresties! I would also LOVE to have a nice setup with some red eyes. :love: Maybe some day...

I love huge lizards. I see a giant iguana and I want to buy it. I will in the future I will own monitors and leather gloves ;)

I'm particularly facinated with Chameleons. I only have a Panther Chameleon right now, but I wouldn't mind having a Jackson's, or one of those pigmy Chameleons!

That is one SMOKING female! Beardies are also my favorite. I was raised around snakes and things, but a beardie was my first real herp that I was responsible for. Got me hooked on keeping and breeding. I would have to say boas are my second with my nile monitors close behind since they are just for display.

Torts, hands down. Wish I had the space and resources to keep a whole herd of 'em. :)

well i like all herps but out of that list , geckos do it for me , namely the tokays :D :rockon:

My BP is my favorite herp, with our Bearded Dragons coming in second.

We recently got a B &W Argentine Tegu. I've read they are very intelligent and can become "dog" tame. Our little guy seems fairly comfortable being handled so far. Since he'll grow to about 4 feet long he'd better be tame!! I think he will become my second favorite shortly, but it's hard to choose!!

In about 2 years, let the beardie and the b&w argie duke it out for your favorite! lol I think I know who would win

What about tuataras?

tarantulas arent herps, but they are at the top of my "favorites" list. aside from snakes being my favorite herps...actually i love ALL herps!! invertebrates are also my favorite things.

Torts had to get my vote they actually win fav. herp over snakes but I'm new to the snake thing and don't even own one yet!

Currently torts are 3 Sulcata's 2 around 11-12 inches one softball size, 2 Russians, 1 Greek, 4 Boxies and my daughters each have a redeared slider (not a tort but they are turtles).

Crocs and Gators win my vote. I've always been fascinated by them, although not fascinated enough to keep one in the future. LOL

I love frogs. I have an albino horned frog. I hope to get some WTFs in the future.
