Re: do you wear glasses?
I voted shades to look cool for the ladies, but did start wearing glasses last year. :( Hate wearing glasses but had put it off longer than I should have,

I tried those progressive lenses but just couldn't get used to them, I kept bobbing my head all over trying to find the right focal range. My bifocals are good between a couple inches in front of my face to about 1 1/2 feet (the bottom half) and the top halves are good from about 3 feet to really far away. But everything between about 1 1/2 feet to 3 feet was just a bit out of focus. I ended up getting single focal lenses for work that make everything clear between about 1 foot to about 3 1/2 feet away. They're great for work but if I look off in the distance over the walls of my cube everything is a blur.

Re: do you wear glasses?
Been wearing glasses for most of my life. Have invisible bifocals now, although I put off the whole bifocal thing for as long as I could. I'm not a candidate for corrective surgery, and they still don't make contacts to correct all my issues...I could wear contacts, but would still have to wear some sort of prescription glasses on top of those.....figures!

Re: do you wear glasses?
mark,
how long did you try them for? it took me a couple of weeks to get used to the changes in the lenses but now i love em. mind you... i've only had them for a month :P
judy,
contacts and glasses? what's the point?

The point is being able to see, I have a buddy that wears 2 pairs at once just to see!

Re: do you wear glasses?
I wore glasses between the ages of 9 and 12, then got contacts. Wow, I just realized it's almost been 15 years of wearing contacts everyday. I hate them, but I can't see squat without 'em in and I hate glasses more, so it's definitely a love/hate relationship.

Re: do you wear glasses?
I've been wearing glasses or contacts since I was in 3rd grade =/
I actually just got some spiffy new glasses yesterday.. I can see much better now

Re: do you wear glasses?
Lasik surgery five years ago. Never had to go back and don't plan on it. :taz:
-
Re: do you wear glasses?
I had to wear them in the Army. I had to sport around the BCG's (Birth control glasses) for months until I just quit wearing them and no one noticed.

Re: do you wear glasses?
:taz: :colbert: WAaaaaaaaahhh, to all of you! :P
I've been wearing prescription lenses since I was five & in kindergarten....They FINALLY came up with the contact lens "technology" for my vision problems when I was a senior in HS. So I got the little, hard plastic disks then.
It's unsafe to wear contacts around the chemicals in the fab, so my contacts are for "special" occasions. I can't afford lasik, but hopefully with tax returns or some serious saving, I can get it done this year! I'm borderline still eligible, and I don't know for how much longer. I might get the surgery, just in order to get SOFT, disposable contacts to make up the difference if the surgery isn't enough.
-
Re: do you wear glasses?
Blind as a bat without them.
-
Re: do you wear glasses?
been wearing glasses/contacts since i was six. i needed them earlier but my parents thought i just wanted attention and that's why i always sat close to the tv and said i couldn't see. finally a letter home from my teacher in first grade clued them in.
so yeah, legally blind since fourth grade. you should have seen the incredible nerd glasses i had to wear until i was allowed to get contacts in tenth grade. the lenses were so thick they actually touched my face at the cheek and eyebrow. oh yeah--now that was hot stuff.
one day i hope to get corrective laser surgery, but i don't know if i'll be a candidate for it or not. even if it could bring my vision back out of the "legally blind" range it might be worth it, but i guess that will be up to the doctor one day when i save up the cash.

Re: do you wear glasses?
now that just sucks :( i have a friend who can't see anything without her glasses... makes me sad to think about it.
sight is such a gift... and so often we don't realize how precious it is until it's fading (or gone).

Re: do you wear glasses?
I wish I could vote for two options :P I have a very low prescription pair of glasses I got mainly because I was getting headaches. Staring at computer screens 9-10 hours a day and then up 6 more in the evenings if I have other work is just not good on the eye balls! I also have a bit of sensitivity to light and hate not driving with some shades on..."to look cool for the ladies"
-
Re: do you wear glasses?
No glass's here, at least not yet.LOL
-
Re: do you wear glasses?
I can't see to get out of bed in the morning without my glasses.....LOL.
I wear glasses alot during the winter because the heaters really dry out my eyes.....but I wear contacts most of the time.

Re: do you wear glasses?
wore them when i was younger but didnt really need them, i want to get laskic through my wifes work but she said since i have ambleopia(sp?) or lazy eye it wouldnt help, she a laser vision correnator for the doc she does all pre opt testing, pic of your eye all that stuff, her doc did it for free on her 5 years ago so she can promote the experance to the patients. she loves it.

Re: do you wear glasses?
Yup, i have to wear glasses, but they are called prism glasses, they look the same, but they help my eyes focus, because they dont work together correctly. lol.

LOL. yup. my bf had to wear those. he (and i) HATE them. they are brown now, i dont know if you had the black or the brown ones. lol. Now that he is in AIT they let him wear his regular glasses though.

Re: do you wear glasses?
im 20/12 vision, never had to wear glasses but I do wear the shades every now and then.
-
Re: do you wear glasses?
I was suppose to when I was younger for lazy eye, but that must have gone away on it's own. Perfect vision now, even the little letters are perfectly clear.

my youngest got glasses last year and they have prisms in them as well. amazing how thin they can make glasses now and still put these inside them.
she's doing soooo great with her glasses. no more headaches (except the ones she gives me)

Re: do you wear glasses?
I had pretty much NO vision without glasses. I wanted lasik, but they wouldn't do it in the states for some odd reason. I went to Canada and had it done for half the price and went through absolutely NO problems and now I have 20/15 in my right eye and 20/20 in my left eye for about five years now. I love it! Never would have imagined what it was like to see without looking through magnifying glasses to do so. I would have paid ten times that amount to see like this. Dr. Andrew Taylor of Lasik MD in Niagara. World-known and is #1 in his field. That guy is my hero!

lol. well thats good. for the longest time they had no idea what was wrong with me. I would get headaches, migranes, and it even turned into me throwing up. It was pretty bad. I had gone to drs, and they said nothing was wrong, and when i went to the eye dr. for a ruitine thing, she explained what was going on. No more headaches or falling asleep while i'm reading! wahoo!

Re: do you wear glasses?
I wear glasses 24/7 since I was 13 years old...I would sleep with them if I could..lol...I want lasik BAD, but its still like 5K...I'd rather spend 5K on BPs......
-
Re: do you wear glasses?

I spent three days in Canada. 1,300 for the lasik and the meds and the "goggles" you need for a week. 200 for the hotel for two nights. That was it. 1500 total and not blind. It was worth it.

I did have them for about a month and never got used to them. When I traded in for some traditional bi-focals, they were almost perfect right away, except for that little mid-range part that I eventually got the computer glasses for. I've got a friend at work who also has the progressive lenes and he loves them. different strokes for different folks I guess.
On the Lasik surgery, my wife had a kidney infection that hospitalized her for a couple of months back when she was in the 2nd grade, it affected her eyes somehow and she had to wear these big thick coke bottle glasses all the way through school. She was legelly blind without them. She got contacts in college but had occasional trouble with them too because her eyes weren't getting enough oxygen?? (something like that) Finally she had lasik surgery about 8 or 9 years ago. Her eyes have been pretty much perfect ever since and she regards lasik as an absolute miracle.

Re: do you wear glasses?
i have two friends who got it done (they live in the us) and they are thrilled! they said it's soooooo worth the money.
-
Re: do you wear glasses?
I wear contacts all the time, even when I sleep. I hate glasses, they make me motion sick.
-
Re: do you wear glasses?
If I want to get my drivers license, I need to get some glasses
-
Re: do you wear glasses?
I wear either contacts or glasses, depending. If I'm having a lazy day at home, or if my eyes are a little irritated (they're pretty sensitive), I wear my glasses.
Otherwise, I wear my contacts as often as possible. :) There's something irksome about having the glasses on my nose.
-
Re: do you wear glasses?
i actually see better with contacts than glasses--something to do with the fact that my contacts correct astigmatism whereas glasses dont, or not to the level that i need. i wear them so much that my doctor has also warned me that my corneas aren't getting enough oxygen--that means that the blood vessels grow into your corneas which isn't a good thing. got some contacts this last time that are supposed to let oxygen through a little better so we'll see. i definitely foresee lasik in my future as long as it is an options for my eyes.

Re: do you wear glasses?
When I finally got contacts in high school I discovered I had better depth perception. I could catch something if you threw it at me.
I've been wearing glasses since 1st or 2nd grade. My right eye is weaker than my left eye and I have astigmatism to a different degree in both eyes. I can't wear contacts anymore, as my eyes are too dry. If I wore contacts now, I'd be able to wear them for an hour or two before I'd have to take them out.
I see an eye specialist every 6 months and I have to take a visual fields test every 6 months. If my visual fields change they will know that the pituitary lesion I have has gotten bigger, which means they'll have to start me on meds to shrink the lesion.
Unfortunately dry eyes can prevent you from getting lasik, since dry eyes will change your prescription, and they don't want to engrave the wrong thing permanently.

Re: do you wear glasses?
I picked "To look cool for the ladies" but really I only wear shades when I ride my motorbike. Got lasik done back in 98 its the shiznit! :carrot:

Re: do you wear glasses?

I chose this one

you are a nosey girl... mind your manners and stop asking questions!
because there was no option for "I should, but the kids keep swiping them and ripping the arms off them....so I gave up" :P
Of course, some days I don't see why I even bother in the first place. I can't see with them and can't see without them. Besides, that's what I have a husband for, he does all my seeing for me. :taz:

Re: do you wear glasses?
I wear my glasses strictly for seeing far away; like if I am driving on roads, watching a movie on a small TV far from me in the room, etc. I can drive offroad and such without them, as I only need them to see details on road signs, etc. I actually like wearing them if I go into the woods for a hike, etc; I can see more details of the landscape and enjoy it more.. and they make great mud/bug guards for your eyes when you're going 40mph on an atv! :)
-
Re: do you wear glasses?
been wearing glasses since I was 7. I tried contacts a few times but my eyes seem to be too dry to allow me to wear contacts all the time. dang I wish I could get that lasic thing done. my sister had hers done and was seeing clearly immediately after!!
