help me with this
what do i do with my snake when we use the a/c in summer?
Right now im using two heat lamps and an electric heater which is fine for the temps and humidity.
But im obviously not gonna use the heater in summer, so should i get heating pads for under his cage or what?

It will all come down to the ambient temp in your house and most specifically in the room where you keep your BP during the summer.

If your ambient temp is low you will need an additional heat source to provide a warm side between 80-84

Well you have two choices here.1. move snake and enclosure to another room that the a/c does not cool.2.buy another UTH to assist in keeping his temps in the correct areas. Now number 2 is going to cost more money in the long run in my opinion( reason is more equipment equels more electricity used.

Re: help me with this
very true, but do you think the seasonal change will stress him out.

Re: help me with this
regardless of seasonal changes you want to keep the temperatures in his cage as consistent as possible. they can sense the seasonal changes but as long as his temps remain correct he will be fine.

Re: help me with this
so if i have ac on and my room is freezing, but his cage temps are normal that's ok?
I'm prolly gonna go with the room change sounds easier and i dont wanna risk messing up temps.

Re: help me with this
if it is cold in your room it will be hard to keep the ambient temperature in the tank warm enough. you may just have to adjust your room temp some and get a second heat source for the cool side.

Re: help me with this
If you are using heat lamps, I assume that you have a glass tank setup.
For Glass, I suggest the following (it worked for me):
I used a Ceramic heating element on top for the ambient temp -- it had its own thermostat. I set this to 84 and I had the probe mounted to the glass about 3 inches above the substrate. This made the bottom of the enclosure about 80.5. Then I added two small repti pads to the bottom to provide a warm area and put them on their own thermostat.
So for your environment: if you connect both of your existing heat lamps to one thermostat and regulate it for the cool/ambient temps, you would only need to get a UTH and thermostat for the hot spot.
That way the temp would stay the same no matter if the room was cold or warm.
Also -- just a note on the human body, it is not very good to cool your environment below 68 degrees. It takes a lot of calories to heat your own body to 98.6 -- we are warm blooded and need that temp for everyting to function ok -- and it costs a bunch to run an air conditioner so if you set it to 68-70 you should be comfortable. Actually, I have my a/c set to 74 -- that is cool enough for me and my family.
