And the Mouse House grows.....

Well finally PetCo got some more fancy mice in the other day and I had to run up and buy a couple more females. That puts me at 1:3 mice right now so hopefully I'll soon be free of buying feeder mice for our BP's that prefer mice over rats.

Here's the current mouse pair when I first got them....the black and white is the male, Licorice and the caramel and white one is the female, Taffy....Taffy's starting to look a bit chubby so we're hoping she's preggo....

Here's the two new females....the reddish colored one just pops, she's so bright it's hard to describe and I love her two toned fox red color....of course she's named Foxy LOL....the little brown one isn't as pretty to look at but she is likely the most friendly mouse ever born so she had to come home with me...not many mice in a pet store climb into your hand and look at you like you are their new bestest friend....I call her Happy since she's such a happy, pleasant natured little creature.....

Sorry they are so messy looking they were all busy constructing nests out of shredded up telephone paper when I dragged these two girls away and they are a bit dusty looking LOL

Ah the cute mice! I have a terrible time feeding the cute ones. I need the ugly white lab mice.

They all seem to be getting along well. No mouse fights thus far so hopefully they will settle in and breed successfully. I've got them pretty much used to being handled so they've stopped squeeking and trying to nip me. Found a nifty trick with them. Instead of picking them up like I do the rats I just put my hand in their tank in front of the mouse I want to hold, tap their butt gently with my other hand and they walk right into my hand. Seems to make them less scared of being picked up. :)

Those are actually very pretty mice. :) Taffy does look like a little mousie cat toy! I am thinking of getting 1.1 because my friend sells mice as feeders and has no reliable source for them, and her breeding efforts seem to be on the fritz; we'll see. I do have a spare 10g in the rat room..

If only they didnt smell so bad. I buy frozen for my mousers...

You know it's kinda odd Jamie but they don't seem to smell all that bad. I don't know if it's because I've only got the one male or that I do change their bedding more often than the rats or that they are on aspen not pine (I think the aspen is way better when it comes to mice pee). Maybe cute mice just don't stink like ugly ones LOL or I don't mind as much since they are visually pleasing to me and I'm a visual sort of person. As long as I stay on top of their bedding changes it does seem not too bad. I do keep a permanent gel type air freshener in the rodent room since I put mice in there and that does help a lot I think.
