    AP economy plastics rack

anyone tried out the new animal plastics economy plastics rack? i am looking for a new rack as my babies are growing and will soon need to move up out of the baby rack. i love the price on this rack but i'm concerned about how well it holds in the heat because of the open back and sides design. how much difference will this make on a rack of this size heated with belly heat? all of the racks i have now are enclosed so i don't have anything to compare this design to...

I just ordered one of these for my corn snakes, and was wondering how it works for BPs as well.

I only have one BP and was thinking maybe add some extra flexwatt to the slot where I keep the BP.

I'm not sure until I see someone use it successfully. I would expect that it won't hold heat as well as a closed design. You might want to give Mark a call.

I just set up some used AP racks... for being moved around, they never faltered structurally, I'm really impressed with the entire unit in a whole... temps, humidity etc... I don't have experience with other brands... but I LOVE them !!!

They hold heat well. I have had my BP's in one for several months and they are doing great.

Don't a number of people here use open sided racks? It's probably no different from those, so if they would chime in. Probably besides the price the best part about those is that you could actually see your animals in the rack, and they'd get some light. But then again, it would cut down on the whole instead a burrow feeling for them.

I can't wait til I get it, 3 weeks to go now if they stay within their estimate.

My first rack, I have 5 glass tanks and 3 plastic tubs prior to switching to the rack.

If anyone else needs them, the tubs used by the AP economy rack, Sterilite 1756 and 1754 , are on sale this week at Target.

I saved $10 on a set of 4 each to fill my rack when it comes in 3 weeks.

you are lucky you can get them at your target! i went to target once or more per week for a month and ended up with a total of 2, yes TWO tubs. every time they would say--ooh we should be getting more in...maybe next week. i ended up ordering them online. :hmm:

If it weren't for the sale, my Target wouldn't have had the 32 qts in either.

When I ordered the rack, I had thought these sizes were more common. Walmart carries the 18xx line which are different dimensions., and Target seems hit or miss as to whether they stock these specific model numbers.

Vision racks are open sided aswell, I just ordered the AP econo. rack about a week ago, and I did alot of research, structurally they are exact to the closed racks, same thickness of material on bottoms and corners, as far as heat they are fine if your home is 70+ degrees, also go to homedepot and buy sheets of reflectix or plexiglass and use double sided velcro tape to close your open rack in. Im gonna do this to make it darker in the rack, the temp in my house stays at 73 degrees and I wont have a problem.
