From what I understand they have all been that way so far :) However I am a little out of the loop and this might not be correct
-
Re: Pied
No your right is like you never see a pied with a white head. It has to do with the way the pied gene developes. The spied has the same thing no body color. Which I think is cool spider with a Lucy body. best of both worlds

You are correct sir. All of the spieds have solid white bodies from the base of the skull down ... can't wait to see a group of them all with different colored heads! ;) :D

Can't hardly wait

Re: Pied
is this right....(so far) ?
pied (SR) x albino (SR) = albino pied (DR)
pied (SR) x pastel (CoDom) = pastel pied (SR/CoDom)
pied (SR) x super pastel (CoDom) = Super pastel pied
pied (SR) x Spieder (Dom) = Spied (SR/Dom)
pied (SR) x lavender (SR) = lavender pied (DR)
RDR Black Head x Spider x Pied = Hotness!
what is missing?

Re: Pied
both snakes have to have the albino and pied gene to get an albino pied. ie, albino x pied = double hets for albino pied. you would then have to raise up and breed the double hets together or back to albinos and pieds and hope to make the odds 1 in 16 !

Ok can anyone be more specific than this? Why do pieds never have a white head? Why does the mutation never manifest itself in the head/neck region?

I am not real sure why it does it but its just part of the deal with Pieds. Like green eyes on Spiders. It may have to do with which end of the snake the pigmentation starts developing in. But thats just a totaly left field, have only seen a couple of them in real life, no experiance with breeding them guess.
-
Re: Pied
Hopefully most of the mutations are appearance only and the abnormal genes that make them look different don't also have any negative side effects. But after the spider twisting thing I wouldn't count on any breeders letting the public know if a few of them did.
-
Re: Pied
I keep seeing the word Het next to a type of snake. What does this mean?
-
Re: Pied
It's short for "heterozygous". It means carrying an unmatched pair of whatever genes you are talking about. For example, at the spider gene location a spider has a copy from one parent with the spider mutation and a copy of from the other parent without the spider mutation (i.e. normal for spider). The term homozygous is used when the pair matches (like homozygous normal or homozygous mutant with either two normal or two mutant copies respectively at the location you are talking about).

Re: Pied
Thanks.
So my snake could be a het of something and I not know it? He cost $60 so it is probably not likely, right?

I'd be warey of this!
-
Re: Pied
from what i have seen they have a good rep and if they sell them to get rid of them, i see it possible. i bought mine from tim bailey for $100 so not much more.
BTW, it was not $60 including shipping
-
Re: Pied
I wouldn't be suprised at all to hear a 100% het albino MALE going for $60... :)
-
Re: Pied
I love that low white albino pied!
-
Re: Pied
Its sad to say but some het males are being sold for very little. het albino and het ghost(hypo)comes to mind. I guess as breeders we are just overproducing ball python morphs?
