So i'm considering doing a display tank. Can you all post pictures of yours so i get some ideas for what i should do?

I'm a pretty creative person, but i've never dont this before, so i figured i would ask.

    Thanks all!

You probably mean naturalistic set ups, but here's one of mine anyway! ;)My corn's tank is the fanciest one. I did it Fantasia style since his name is Falkor.

there's a great book I have and recommend

    "The Art of Keeping Snakes"
It is all about building and maintaining naturalistic vivaria for different types of snakes. Some of it is a bit extreme, but you can get some great ideas and pick and choose how far you want to take it.

My goal is to eventually keep all naturalistic setups (except for the quarantine tank)

    good luck!

I have my Iguana in a display-type cage, but it's not awesome or anything. If I were to set one up for one or some of my snakes, I would order a nice black plastic cage to do it in.

Thanks all :). I am going to do a natural set up for one of my BPs, i just have to decide which one i want to put in there. Possibly the pied, she is pretty cool to look at. lol. i'll get something together, and post it, and ask opinions.

Thos of you with natual display set ups, do you use the repti-bark stuff? How does that work for you?

A 55 gallon tank, that is hard to heat regardless, and especially for a baby Ball who you just got, doesn't sound like the best possible situation for her.

Maybe get some Crested Geckos, Tree Frogs, etc. Something that will actually appreciate the space and the time you took to decorate it.

The Ball is just going to be stressed to the max, squished in a hide 24/7.

Totally agree. Frogs, arboreal snakes, iggies look nice in display tanks ... but a BP? It can be totally detrimental to the snake's well being.

You have to ask yourself what are your priorities and wether having an aesthetic setup to show-off to your friends and family is worth the stress caused to the snake. It's your snake after all.

    Agreed as well.

As has been said here many times in the past - a ball python is not an ideal display snake.

While I agree that a 55 gallon is too big, that is not to say that you can't do a display cage AND keep proper husbandry and security for the snake.

See this thread for our ball python's cage.

    Re: Display Tank
i was going to use the 55 for fish, and the 20L for snake displaying (after reading what you guys told me), but the deal fell through, and now i just have one 20L, which already has fish in it. so, BPs stay in tubs :)

I have been wanting todo a display cage with an aboreal snake for some time now. I have seen awesome cages that are built into enterainment centers and other type of house things. And I agree with who ever said its possible to keep prober husbandry (and I know no one said it cant be done). Im always coming up with ideas.

Heres just a short list of things Iv wanted for display:
    Mangrove
    another False Water Cobra
    Thamnodynastes
The False Arabian Cobra (such and awesome snake)
Iv wanted to get a mangrove (but not sure due to a few different people telling me storys), possibly another FWC for display. Im also in love with Thamnodynastes just because of some storys a breeder has told me. They stay really small also. He said that they are great in display also.

    Re: Display Tank
indeed, a ball python is not great for a real naturalistic vivaria, unless you did it very carefully and just replicated the burrows it favors in the wild and was careful not to raise humidity levels too much when selecting substrate/decor. You wouldn't see the BP much, but you would have a naturalistic setup to look at.

I love naturalistic setups, but with a BP I think the best compromise is some nice bedding material and some natural-looking hides and water dish. Maybe a piece of sterilized wood as a jungle gym and some fake plants.

if keeping a high-humidity species like BRB or GTP/ETB etc, you have a lot of nice options with naturalistic vivaria with live plants etc. The higher humidity does them good, as opposed to a BP who would end up with health problems.
