Do you kiss your snake?
Am I the only one who kisses my snake? My snake kisses me back too.
-
Re: Do you kiss your snake?
Yes, I have kissed my snake before.
-
Re: Do you kiss your snake?
I think it's rather unsanitary to kiss my reptiles.
-
Re: Do you kiss your snake?
I'd rather not make mucous or mouth/lip contact with my snakes. They don't wipe, you know?
Anytime one of my snakes, especially Carmen who likes "up" and being on top of your head goes northward and slithers past my mouth, I either move her and/or her coil or press my lips inward so as to have no contact....
I mean, I don't want my cats paws near my mouth either, let along any other feline orifice...
-
Re: Do you kiss your snake?
The scales of snakes feel good on your lips... I can't help it
-
Re: Do you kiss your snake?
i don't mind when my snake touches my lips with his face but i dont just go kissing him
-
Re: Do you kiss your snake?
i would be concerned about getting something from kissing them. seems very unsanitary to me.
so i voted "heck no"

Wow, I love my snake, but I dont know if I'm in love with him! :8:

Re: Do you kiss your snake?
I kiss mine on the top of the head sometimes. My male normal always seems to kiss back. He loves to whisper sweet nothings in my ear after, LoL. I think he just likes the smell of my ear, but it tickles when it flicks his tongue near or on it. I squirm away. :(

That's why I give Monty a bath after he makes the big POO. He is so cute when he dunks his little head under water. When he wants out, he just slithers out of the bucket then he slithers up to my head to dry himself in my hair. He LOVES my hair but not as much as he LOVES my glasses. As much as he loves spending time with me he will slither over to my husband when I set next to him on the couch.

Re: Do you kiss your snake?
I don't like em near my face at all
-
Re: Do you kiss your snake?
Heh.. try getting your thumb latched onto and constricted.. you won't be letting their faces into yours again, I guarantee. It is never a good idea.. last thing we need in the news is, "girl's ball python bites her in nose!" Not to mention the huge heat signature your head puts off. it would be like blasting Megadeth in someone's ear at 3AM when they are asleep (not that I don't like Megadeth; I do, but not at 3AM..)

Re: Do you kiss your snake?
I would never kiss my snakes especially after thinking my yellow anny was all nice and then him biting me today. I dont think these bite mark would look to good on the lips.
-
Re: Do you kiss your snake?
Heck no!!!!! I agree Aleesha salmonella is not fun. I kiss my dog but not my snake! I love my snakes but I also respect they are reptiles. I ALWAYS wash my hands after handling ANY reptile. I thinks its best for me and the animals. I've been bit on the hand and i can live with that. I know someone who had a BP lock on their lip and they weren't trying to kiss it. OOOOOOuuuuuuuch! Anyone that swallows rats whole does not get even get a peck on the cheek from me!

I have to confess once Cyrus started getting over his R.I. I was so happy I
kissed him! Silly I know. In response he stuck his head in my ear!

Re: Do you kiss your snake?
I'll take a picture of a ball python sitting in a tub soaked with its own urine and urates and feces, happily sitting right next to the pile of it all, and see who still wants to kiss their snake then.

Re: Do you kiss your snake?
Speaking as someone who's had salmonella it is definately not a fun time. That being said though I don't let germs rule my life. I don't wash my hands after using the bathroom, I eat food I drop on the floor and I let my dogs occasionally lick my icecream. So if you want to kiss your snake then I say go ahead and kiss him. I figure we have our immune system for a reason and I like to keep it on its toes. That said, no I do not kiss my Ball Python as I like watching my snake more than handling it. I'm not afraid to kiss my snake it's just I don't get the feeling of affection as I would from a dog so I don't see the point.

I'm with you on that, having seen 2 of my friends suffer from ole Sal, one from chicken and one we can only trace back to no washing after contact with his turtles, I know better than to kiss my snakes or any other reptile for that matter. Had to go with Heck No.
Now a few may say a turtle and a snake are totaly different and they are in all but one case, turtles swim in there own poo (fact of life for them) and snakes slither over theirs so both are high risk for salmonella.

Unless you give monty a bath in antibacterial soap thats not going to save you from salmonella.

Re: Do you kiss your snake?
Hi,
[RANT]
Just thought I'd mention this as it's what killed the reptile trade in scotland almost totally when run in a national newspaper;
Its NOT only reptiles that can give you salmonella!! in fact you are far more likely to pick it up from your cat or dog who spend their free time sniffing their own and other animals cr*p, licking various orifices and then being allowed to lick childrens faces ( though thankfully not every one allows this) because people think it looks cute.
You can catch it from virtually every living thing on earth up to, and including, your girlfriend. Just drink plenty of water and consult a medical practitioner if it carries on for any length of time or if you are in a vulnerable group.
It always seems to me people are far to worried about a little infection these days - the immune system is there for a reason and for a lot of the stuff we come into contact with it works fine. You can tell this because the human race didn't die out almost instantly. But if you shield everyone from all germs then their immune system doesn't function at full efficiency and problems can develop - the last part is purely my own opinion and in no way should be taken as scientific fact by the way. :)
[/RANT]
Sorry about that but it hits my little trigger everytime.
If it's any consolation your body can adapt to the point of handling terrapins, frozen rats and mice and catching crickets and locusts all while eating a sannich with the other hand (gotta love working in an understaffed busy petshop) all without suffering any ill effects after only a few weeks.
In the initial stages just assure people you are on the "sh*t yourself thin" diet and make carefull notes of all public restrooms on a map in your pocket. :P
And in an unexpected veer into ontopic;
I tend not to actually kiss them much but do let them rest their heads on my nose and stare into my glasses/eyes. I have no idea why they do this but they seem to like it and it only bothers me when I'm trying to type.

Re: Do you kiss your snake?
ok if you kissis you snake you will get salmonela, if you go to the tropics you can get "dengue" beacuse of the mosquito, if you go and in the sea you can get atack by a shark, and know you can get the chiken virus by eating a chiken wing. hey if we all care that much about virus and stuff I will be in a bubble lol like the sing from KLG live your life like it was the last day. jus be care full lol

Re: Do you kiss your snake?
Urine is sterile INSIDE the body only(which is why we do cystocentesis), and when you eliminate, the urine catches all of the bacteria and other fun stuff that has lodged itself in your urethra, which then makes it non-sterile(also why you can't do a culture on free-catch wee).
Yay for an anatomy lesson

But still though I bet what is in my urethra is harmless compared to what is on pay phones, restraunt utensils, etc. Either way I don't see the point in getting all worked up about germs. Bacteria is just something our body has to deal with and our body from head to toe is covered in it.

yeah thats true. even if you're the type of person that is "germ-phobic" that takes like 10 showers a day,you can never be 100% bacteria free.as soon as you step out of the shower, you're back to being covered in bacteria and germs as if you had never taken that shower in the first place.

Re: Do you kiss your snake?
No way... Not unless they took me to a movie and bought me dinner first.
:D

Re: Do you kiss your snake?
THAT IS DISGUSTING for a guy not to wash his hands SHAME on youi find it totally disgusting!!!!!! you think your clothes are free from sweat and as much as you like to wish you do a perfect job at ringing it all out sometimes you dont. Your hands are coverd from other stuff aswell so you should wash your hands anyway. If you told your girlfriend that they wouldnt come near you with a 10 ft pole YUCK!!! i do kiss my snames :) but i do wash my hands after taking a peei dont touch my pee i touch the toilet paper but does that mean i dont have to wash my hands no its doesnt and i use mouth wash does that mean i dont have to brush me teeth no it doesnt i brush every day 3 times mouth wash 2 times and floss 3 times after meals thx its disgusting not washing your hands.

Re: Do you kiss your snake?
wow samila18 you must have some pretty clean teeth...
but i agree with dr. del. any area on my own person if definately cleaner than any public rest room, pay phone or handrail etc.
i know how clean i am but i dont know about the rest of you...
no offense and "you" referring to people everywhere...;)
anyways i dont kiss my snakes but my girlfriend does and i tell her dont do it but i guess the cuteness of ball pythons is irresistable to her and she cant help it.
i wish i was that cute!
haha!

A little too much information there, I'd say. While I understand your point about not being afraid of every little thing that can happen in life...I also think a certain degree of personal hygiene is desirable.
Do I kiss my snakes? Well, one is too fast and wiggly most of the time. But my BP recieves a great deal of personal affection from me. I don't really "kiss" her, but sometimes I like to let her sides slide along my cheek. And she "sniffs" my face, which seems like little snakie kisses. I'm not afraid of catching salmonella from her, although I understand the slight risks involved there....but that said, I still wash up carefully after handling her, and I have no desire to actually put my mouth on her or any other animal for that matter.
-
Re: Do you kiss your snake?
YES!! All the time, my oldest kisses back. He will actually move to my face to kiss me, he is my little baby. And I have never had either of them strike. I also have NEVER gotten sick from them either.
