What kind of OS do you use?
Not sure if there's been a thread about this or like this before, but what kind of operating system do you use for your computer? How do you like it? Etc lol. Please share :D
I use Linux Kubuntu, love it...could never go back to windows or mac lol. Too much freedom with this OS, and so much creativity lol.
Re: What kind of OS do you use?
Here's a screen shot of Linux Kubuntu! Anybody else? lol.

Try installing "wine."

Re: What kind of OS do you use?
I've tried it before and the whole thing crashed. I'm still kind of new to Linux. I am loving it though!
Re: What kind of OS do you use?
Ubuntu and the variants are awesome flavors of Linux especially for beginners. Primarily right now I'm on OSX. Recently got my first mac through/for work. I have a couple mac labs I support as part of my job which is a recent change and me not having current experience with macs warranted some new tools. So far I love the macbook pro (Intel mac). It runs Windows just fine even though boot camp is still in beta. I really only run full windows when I'm at home...playing a few games or doing something specific at work that requires it. I've only had the new system a few weeks (month?) so I'm still learning/remembering how to do things and sometimes it takes longer because things are TO easy or TO logically placed within OSX but I'm getting just about as snappy with the shortcuts and key commands as any other OS. I do like the benefits of OSX, it is after all Unix based.
I think I posted specs before but just because its the nerdy thing to do:
MacBook Pro2,2
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33ghz (T7600)
2GB ram (667mhz)
ATI Radeon X1600 256mb
120GB Hitachi SATA hard drive
Dual Layer DVD
All packed nicely into a 15" thin and light powerhouse! I couldn't believe how light this was compared to all the other "PC" notebooks I've used over the years.

Re: What kind of OS do you use?
WinXP Pro...but I am in a mixed marriage as Rick is a born-again Mac lover (since OS X)...
He keeps waving "dual Xeon processors" in front of my face and saying crap like "resistance is futile"....pfft.
Re: What kind of OS do you use?
How mnay WinXP users are going to go over to Vista immediately?

He must be running a pretty beefy system!
Hardcore mac users seem to be this way, there is a women at work who has daily issues with her mac software and she still scoffs at anything windows LOL.
*Edit*
Vista: I played with RC1 of Vista very briefly, it was quite different. While I think change is good and bells and whistles are neat sometimes... I was primarily thinking about the headaches of training all the users at work who are just now getting used to navigating XP. On the flip side of bells and whistles...when I'm at work I don't want that extra crap and I sure as heck don't want to have to spec out more costly machines just to run a bloated OS.
We'll see how it goes, change overs and upgrades...especially in my area of work, won't happen very quickly. Bring on the newer technologies, it will ensure my employment that much longer LOL!
Re: What kind of OS do you use?
Mac's are very cool! I just installed wine, and installed Degei. Degei messes up when it runs, so I uninstalled it. LOL oh well.

Do you even need to ask this question?

Re: What kind of OS do you use?
Ah well I'm just a poor soul with Windows XP.
Nothing special for me.

not immediately...but it looks slick. i'll be keeping an eye on it for sure.
Windows XP user...Not too familiar with Linux..and i'm comfortable on a Mac. I don't prefer one platform over another. they've all got pros and cons. I'd rather be comfortable than hard core biased and refuse to touch anything other than what i know :D
Re: What kind of OS do you use?
I run Windows Xp Pro. I haven't had a mac in years, and I've thought about getting one for more media/photo/artwork related stuff, but I haven't done it.
I have used linux, but I'm more of a gamer, and the software I'm more familiar with is Windows based.
I'm not going to switch over to Vista for a very long time. Everything I've heard about vista is that it's basically a bloated version of XP. Also, considering the way that Microsoft OS's tend to be, I want to wait until they've worked out some of the bugs and security issues.
Re: What kind of OS do you use?
I think one of the only things I'm looking forward to with Vista is better support for 64bit.

Vista is already shipping for business...but I see no need to move to it immediately. Changing OS's is a gradual process; not all software manufacturers have solid or any ports to that OS and I personally refuse to use mixed bit support between my OS and chip. Silly silly people who put 64-bit OSs on 32-bit chips or vice-versa...

NO WAY... I just upgraded to XP. less then a month ago I was still using Windows 98
Re: What kind of OS do you use?
I'm rollin' with WinXP at the moment :cowboy:... frankly, I wouldn't reccommend getting Vista until around next year. By then it'll have all the launch-bugs worked out and more programs would be compatible with it.

Nothing will have to be "ported" to vista. The issues that are persistent are due hardware drivers or lack thereof. That and directX 10 issues. There is no way to install a 64bit OS on systems that don't have 64bit support. True some early "64bit processors" where not completely true 64bit, only (somewhat) supported it. The machine my wife uses here at home was one I built a while a while back and has an EM64T that runs standard xp pro (32bit). The 64bit version of XP was crap for sure, I did run a 64bit kernal of linux on it for a short time without issues however. My current macbook and other systems with the core 3 duo processors also have 64bit capable processors which is cool for future proofing to an extent.
