    New Cage Update (DU warning)
So, some of you saw this a while ago, but the cage is now completely 100% done (except for one piece of trim...eugh) I temps are staying nice and perfect. The hum. is really good too. So, here it is:

There is a hide that goes under the tiki-hut-type thing, but it's currently MIA

Looks very nice - a little overwhelming for a ball python, if that's what you're keeping in there.

How are you keeping heat and humidity in there with a zipper screen front?

I just saw on the second picture in the water bowl is a ball python. I have the same question, How do you keep heat and humidity?

It's for a bp. He's been in there a while and does seem overwhelmed. He likes to be able to sleep wherever he wants. He's got several hides. The pirate ship in the back is one as well, and I usually turn the log away so you can't see into it, but he doesn't seem to favor that one much anymore.

The house is fairly warm during the day and teh temps say good, maybe a degree or two below what I'd like for about half-an hour before the furnace kicks in. I've got three UTH in there, as well at the three lamps. At night I throw a blanket over it (the tops lift up, so I can tuck it in there) and it keeps it perfect.

Very nice enclosure but I don't think I would use it for a BP they are very clumsy and I would be very concerned if he was falling from the top and I would also be concerned about the proper temp, just my :twocents:

As I said, the temps are fine. He's been in there for quite a while, and hasn't fallen yet.

The wood is Birch and Oak.

It was fun to make. I love the door pulls.

Each of the levels have lips on them, so I think he'd have to try fairly hard to fall off.
I might try and think of something to sick under there though.

I wouldn't have a clue as to how to keep the humidity at 50% in there.

So you keep that room in the mid-80's? Wow!

How are you providing a warm spot and a cool spot - I still don't see how that's possible to keep two different temps in an enclosure with a screened front, much less keep the humidity at 50%?

Nice cage! Considering that my BP can barely stay on a 5 inch tall branch, I don't think he'd fare to well in that cage! I love that little tiki hut!! :D

No, but as I said, I have three UTH and three bulbs up top. And there is a warmer and cooler side. It is very possible, unless my digital therms are lying to me, which I don't think they're that vindictive.

If you put that blanket over the cage when the bulbs are on, that could be dangerous for your both your snake and your house.

Re: New Cage Update (DU warning)
I am sorry; I think that it is an awesome piece of work, but not ideal for a ball python; especially a subadult. I do not see how you can keep your house in the 80-degree temperature range without either running yourself broke in heating bills, or sweating to death..
Screen cages also encourage respiratory infections.. drafts are natural in any room that is not mothballed..
I am surprised that not many of the pros are weighing in here.. I am seriously not trying to start anything negative..

Re: New Cage Update (DU warning)
It's a nice looking cage, I too feel that it would be somewhat hard to keep the temperatures/humidity right but if your doing it, kudo's to you!
My male pastel loves to climb, he'd probably love all of the differen't climbing spots... Definetly be careful with the blanket though... In your case you'd probably be better putting some aluminum foil over the section your covering... Atleast it won't catch fire if one was to start. I'm sure a fire detecter in ANYBODY"S snake room wouldn't be a bad idea either... Electrical mishaps happen and you wouldn't want to lose a snake, entire collection, your house or you or your family...

Good job though on the construction! looks well built!
