the "negative rep" game

i have found that when posting a point someone feels that it is ok to give neg rep. it has also come to my attention that many are abusing the privelidge and randomly giving neg rep. is it possible to just take away reputation points on this site? thanks:)

I agree i don't think there should be rep.

ya i belong to many forums and none have rep:)

I like the rep tool, personally.

i pesonnaly wouldnt care about them. i think on a website that has some pretty strong opinoins that there proably shouldnt be neg points given. but if people trash other people and just say what they want then maybe there should be.. who knows, i dont know, you know what just forget i said anything...lol

If you feel there is an abuse of the rep system please feel free to bring it to the attention of a mod or admin and it will be investigated.

Yes, sometimes neg rep is given out. No one will agree with you 100% of the time. Fortunately, most of the time the rep system is used in a productive way.

I personally like the rep system. If you get a neg rep, get over it, its not worth crying over, if you get a pos rep then good for you. I find nothing wrong with it.:2cent:

As Christie said - if you feel they are unwarranted, PM a mod or admin and we'll take a look at the neg hits and evaluate whether they should be removed.

OK, just a question - what makes you think that Joe has hit you three times? You have to give rep to about 20 people I believe, before you can come back and hit someone again (either pos or neg). That takes a bit of time.

if you feel someone is abusing their priviledge, then you should contact a moderator or admin via pm and discuss the matter. ;)

You can check your rep points (and comments) by clicking on User CP and scrolling down.

You can't see comments or rep points on another member, but you can see their "level" by hovering over the green (or red if someone has received a lot of neg hits) dots to see what level they are. 1 green dot is 10-100 points, 2 dots is 101-200 points, 3 dots is 201-300 points, etc - you gain a dot with each 100 pos rep points.

Jeff, then someone did not agree with your post. Rep will make you think about what you are posting and keep you on your toes.

you can see your reputation points and any remarks left if you click on "User CP" which is across the banner table of contents at the top of your screen.

no, members do not see your rep count but they can hover their mouse over the little green box under your name and see the phrase which suggests how many points you have.

You can check your rep by going to USER CP on the main bar. Scroll past any subscribed threads and you'll see your rep and any comments left.

The rep system is not perfect, but it is as balanced as possible. Not only do you have to 'spread it around' before you can hit the same person again, you can only give a fixed number of hits each day as well. You can not see other people's rep, except by putting your cursor over the green bar in the person's profile. It will give you a general idea of their rep.

The best advice I can tell you is to not take it personally. These points will not cause your hair to fall out nor buy you that car you've always wanted.

mentioned this before but some forums allow users to disable rep...I would do so if this option where made available here. Not only is rep used for immaturity quite often but I know it adds to the "work" forum admins have to do already when they "fix" someone's neg rep.

This is the way i feel about things------your not going to agree with everyone---and no matter how hard your try, you will never change the mind of someone......you have to take things with a grain of salt------if someone says something you don't like (in reason of course) state your case and leave it at that----if your a good guy, it will show, if your an A** if will show-----you can't worry about every little thing someone says about you----you have to show people with your actions-------talking is cheap!

you want to know what i find amazing. it's the people on this forum who complain about the reptutation system the most who seem to give out the MOST neg reps.

i'm not pointing any fingers at anyone specifically... but you all know who you are. you sit here and complain... saying you got a neg rep and it wasn't fair. saying it's not fair for people to neg rep you... etc etc and then you go and neg rep others...

amazing how something you feel is soooo unfair is something you do yourself!

how about... focusing on the positive reps you can find and give them out instead.

and... while i'm ranting... ever notice no one ever complains about getting a positive rep point? no one ever says... "excuse me, this positive rep isn't really warranted and i'd like it removed - as my post really wasn't all that helpful" :rofl:

i have no offence to getting neg rep as i realized it was a bad post i made. but 3 neg reps for one post? onle little post gives me 3 neg reps. its the lack of limitations to the rep system that made me post this. for no reason i could give anyone tons of neg rep in a single day and there is nothing anyonecan do about it if i did this. i also think that rep should always be checked over by a moderator for someone like jasballs who comes cursing at me (yes she left her name) thinking she has the right to do what she wants.

obviously at least three different members felt your post was negative. the reputation system is put in place to assist you to see how other member's are viewing your posts. if they feel you are being negative then perhaps you should take a look at what you are saying, how you are saying it and see if there's a better way to express yourself.

honestly... i don't understand why people don't just try to be more polite in their posting... would you speak to people at your workplace like some of you do on this forum? well these posts... every single one of them are made by a living, breathing, feeling human being. just like you.

let me correct myself. 3 neg reps in one thread the rep system is a childs way to piss people off

i have to respectfully disagree with you jeff. if i received three neg reps in one thread... i would, without a doubt, stop and look at what i was saying and how i was saying it... cause honestly... every single person has to give reputation points to a lot of other people and only a max of 10 a day... before they can rehit someone. so the chances of it being one person within one thread is slim to none. and if three different people were hitting me... well i'd spend a bit of time rethinking the way i represent myself.

but that's just me... and my opinion.
