Somebody stop me!!!!
So, stopped at PetSmart today to pick up 2 screen top lids for 2 10 gallon maternity tanks (my co-worker gave those to me), some water bottles, aspen, more mazuri lab block and senior dog food (Science Diet, by the way is only 16% crude protein).
Of COURSE I had to stop and peek in at the ratties, and saw from the front door that they had a sign up with blue rats. They had one left - a gorgeous little American Blue hooded girl with a broken stripe (more like two dots on her back). She is PRECIOUS! And, of course she came home with me! So, one of the little girls I was thinking of promoting from Mrs. Snuggles' litter has just been demoted. She's a light powder blue - love her!
She's still little, so she should do fine in one of the 10 gallons as a quarantine tank and she needs to put on a little weight before she meets Caesar.
Sadly, still no camera - should have one in about three weeks.

Stop you?! :O I don't think so. :colbert:
I like to live vicariously through eveyone elses newest additions. Of course, it would be easier if you had a working camera! :evileye: But I guess I'll wait patiently until you get your new one. (like I have a choice  )
Congrats on your newest addition. I'm jealous. Blue and hooded?!?! http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ulke/thud1.gif

I even told myself on the way there - no new ratties, only if there's a blue hooded. She was inside her igloo, and when I peeked in, I saw a gray face and a lot of white - I couldn't see any more of her - went and found an employee and said - I NEED to see that rat (please let her be hooded, please let her be hooded, please let her be hooded!!)! LOL
On top of being a cutie pie, she's as sweet as sugar!

Re: Somebody stop me!!!!
 How sweet. She must have been meant to be yours!!

Re: Somebody stop me!!!!
OK, so Ms. Becky!!!!! What should I expect from an American Blue Hooded and a Black Hooded, since Caeser will be the daddy when she eventually has babies?
-
Re: Somebody stop me!!!!
I'd think Blue, Black, maybe PEW if she's carrying a pink eye dilute. I'd say alot of black though and maybe a few blues, all hooded.

Re: Somebody stop me!!!!
So, as I'm cleaning rattie enclosures and setting up the new girl in her own tank - she told me her name - since she's a Christmas girl - her name will be Noel!

Re: Somebody stop me!!!!
Congrats Robin! Can't wait to see pics. American Blues are my personal favorite and a hooded one at that...I'm green with jealousy LOL. Ed that's a gorgeous fawn female. Another color I really like and am having a very hard time finding here locally. I see at least one lovely fawn baby in there with her too...you lucky dog! LOL

I need another Christmas name - if the Petsmart by my job has the blue hooded they say that they do (and I'll know after work), another one will be coming home with me this evening, then I'm DONE, I tell you - until I produce some girls I want to promote. Since these two stores are sort of close to each other, I wonder if they might not be from the same litter, but the litter split up between the stores here. Probably not, but who knows?

Re: Somebody stop me!!!!

Re: Somebody stop me!!!!
Larry - my camera is broken and I won't be able to buy a new one until January 19th at the earliest (next paycheck that I have some extra cash on). I've picked out the camera, and am considering it an investment for my ball python business.
Read your journal last night btw - can't believe that someone tried to break in while your car was parked out front. Crazy! Glad that everything turned out ok!

Re: Somebody stop me!!!!
Thanks Robin. I love to here that your reading. Hit counter isn't working so I can't tell if people are reading or not. Larry
sorry OT

Re: Somebody stop me!!!!
Rab the title says for someone to stop you, but how can we when you already got the blue hooded girl? Heehee. Lucky though! Im not so sure about whats a blue hood and what exactly a blue rat is.. is that one that very dark grey? And hooded, a white rat with blue hood? What all the color strains out there? Or name a few not too obvious like; white, black, brown. :)

Re: Somebody stop me!!!!
Here's a thread that explains colors in rats. Post #14 shows a blue caped (I call hooded). The baby one on his hand is very much what mine looks like:

I'm going to another PetSmart after work that says they have a blue hooded as well, so I guess I can't be stopped! LOL

Re: Somebody stop me!!!!

Re: Somebody stop me!!!!
Aww that a hooded blue, I had a female one of them when I took home 5 baby rats 7days of age and handraised them all, sadly all but one died. And now that one is a Mom of 13! :)

Re: Somebody stop me!!!!
And then there were two! Got the second American Blue Hooded - her name is Holly (thanks Joanna!).
She has a solid stripe down her back, where as Noel has two dots on her back. Noel is the sweetie pie, Holly is the squirm meister!
And thanks Joanna for walking me through WalMart to find the plastic shelving unit I needed!
-
Re: Somebody stop me!!!!
Glad you found that shelving unit Robin. It will be a great space saver with your growing rat colony. Can't wait to see the pics of the two American Blue Hooded females you gotten lately. :)
