New rescued female
My friend who manages a reptile store, received a collection of snakes from someone, all of them were underweight. He knew I was looking for some females, so here is an adult female BP from the collection. As you can see she could use some weight, she is eating F/T rats with gusto for me, so I am sure she'll be putting on weight soon. She is about 1400 grams, should be more for her length. It is infuriating how people can treat their snakes this way. :( She is a sweetheart.

Very pretty - congrats. You've brought in a lot of new snakes recently - quarantine must be a lot of fun! :D

LOL been there, done that....welcome to Quarantine Room #1 (QR 1 aka the master bedroom), Quarantine Room #2 (QR 2 aka my laundry room), etc. Also fun but definitely worth it to do the work to protect your collection. Congrats on the new girl, she's gorgeous!

Re: New rescued female
Wow, I seriously love tht pattern; looks like a light, slightly granite pattern. Congrats on rescuing her and giving her a better life that she deserves!
It is so insane that a perfectly fine eater like her, would be allowed by a former owner to be underweight.

Re: New rescued female
She is a really good eater, poor thing was so hungry when I got her. I am feeding her smaller sized prey than I am sure she can handle, but more often than once a week. So far she has eaten 3 F/T rat pups for me in less than a week, one about every 2 days. I'll work her up to bigger prey when she is a bit more settled. Interesting you mentioned the pattern, I too thought, though I am not saying she is a granite, she had a slight more speckling than I have seen in most normals . Love that Granite Ed is selling!

You're not giving her body much chance to rest between meals - it's really better to feed her once a week, and keep the meals small - she'll put on the weight. Digestion is a very stressful process on their bodies.

Re: New rescued female
I do feed all my other snakes once a week. I have never delt with feeding a snake before that was underweight, so I wasn't sure what was best. I did know that smaller was better. I guess I felt badly that she was so thin and seemed so hungry. I'll wait a week before feeding her again, thanks for the help! :P

Re: New rescued female
From the pictures that you posted of her, she's not emaciated and certainly not in any danger of wasting away. She looked to me like she had some nice mass on her - maybe a little underweight or maybe even dehydrated, but certainly not skinny.
I think a regimine of 1 meal a week will be just fine for her!

That's really good to hear, she seemed thin compared with my other adult, with a slight pointing to her back, not as round, but I am pretty new to ball python ownership, so I guess I was more concerned than needed. Thanks again! Happy Holidays!
