What do I do with this thermometer sensor?
I just got an Acu-Rite thermometer and it has the cord attached to it with a sensor at the end...but my question is: what do I do with that sensor?
Do I stick it to one side of the tank or something?
:confused:
Re: What do I do with this thermometer sensor?
i place the unit itself on the cold side and put the probe under the warm side hide so i get a reading under there.
Re: What do I do with this thermometer sensor?
then what do i do with the thermo-stat probe?
Re: What do I do with this thermometer sensor?
and should the UTH be placed towards the back bottom of the cage or the middle bottom of the cage?
Re: What do I do with this thermometer sensor?
Do I set my differential on my t-stat to 1 ? :confused::confused::confused:
Re: What do I do with this thermometer sensor?
how do I set my Ranco so that it keeps it 80 on the cool side and 90 on the warm?
:confused::confused::confused:
Re: What do I do with this thermometer sensor?
I also place the Acurite on the cool side with the probe under the warm hide. I place the thermostat probe on the outside of the cage either taped to the Flexwatt/UTH or very close to it. Then adjust the thermostat temps until the Acurite temps are where you want them. It'll likely take a bit of trial and error until the temps stabilize, but when you're finished you shouldn't have to fool with it anymore.
Oh, and a differential of 1 degree is fine.

I can plug the UTH into the outlet attached to the Ranco right?

does that mean I would put the t-stat probe under the cage?
because my UTH is on the bottom of the cage
:confused:

Yep... that's what it's for. ;)

It depends on how your cage is setup. If you can leave a little room for the UTH to stick out from under the tank, you can tape it directly to the UTH. The idea is to find a place for the thermostat probe that is very stable. If you place it in the cage, it can get moved around and will likely alter the temps. If you can't place it outside of the cage, try to find a secure spot in the cage such as under the substrate. Just don't tape it to the inside of the cage because snakes and tape don't get along too well. ;)

The Ranco is only going to control the temps for one side of the enclosure. Plug the UTH into the thermostat, I put the probe of the thermostat between the UTH and the enclosure.
As for the probe of the thermometer (not thermostat), I put that on top of the substrate inside the warm side hide.

and u place the thermometer on the cool side right?
Re: What do I do with this thermometer sensor?
Yes, the unit itself is velcroed to the cool side at the ground level to measure cool side temps, and the probe is inside the warm side hide to measure the warm side temps.

so you put the unit at ground level on the wall?
not like towards the top of the cage?
Re: What do I do with this thermometer sensor?
and should i have my lights setup (what i had before all of this) still on in the tank since the UTH takes a while to heat up?

No, not towards the top of the cage - you're measuring ground level temps, since ball pythons are ground dwelling.

Keep an eye on temps, if it gets too hot with the lights, turn them off.

Re: What do I do with this thermometer sensor?
okay, I think I should be okay now lol....
I can't thank you enough for all the help you and xdeus have given me, I REALLY appreciate it....sorry if I annoyed you with my 100 questions on christmas...thanks again

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to rabernet again.
